I go to Goodison only about 2 games a season usually but I always try and head to the church hall for pre-match cake, sandwiches and tea etc-- not too rock n roll I admit, but as I go to the match on my own it's pretty good and it's very reasonably priced.

Does anyone else ever go?

I think it's fantastic for what it is. I love the old-fashioned feel of it. Home-made cakes and tea in old mugs in an old hall. It's a fairly friendly and welcoming place with plenty of Away support seemingly welcome too. I told my mate who's a completely obsessed Arsenal fan about it, and he
compare that with the experience of going to the Emirates (or basically any other ground - I'm thinking particularly Madjeski Stadium) and you're paying loads for a coke / beer in a Coca-Cola branding plastic cup and a crappy hot-dog and it's just so soul-less.

It's so full of 'character' and it's a throwback to yesteryear but I like it and somehow it just fits the image I have of Everton in my head: lots of quirky history and character, and full of class!

Absolutely spot on, I haven't been for ages!

I love it mate. I don't go in very much because I'm often on the last minute but it's very much part of Everton and, if I'm taking someone to the game who hasn't been before, or goes rarely, then St. Lukes is normally on the agenda.

Towards the end of last season, the Everton Heritage Society started running pre-match exhibitions upstairs, above the tea room - did you see any of them? It was only supposed to be a one off at first, but it was so successful, they got the club and the church to agree to do it before every game. A lot of really interesting stuff on display, old photographs and items from Everton history, plus there's books, programmes and various items for sale as well, as well as some great artwork and prints. They've also had some book signings up there as well, including Sheedy and Kendall. Worth checking out before a game.

They used to sell old programmes before the game all the time but stopped doing it and I never found out why. I loved it and me and my dad would pop in almost every game until they stopped doing that. I'm glad to see it's back if it is still there next season so I can pop in.

when my son was younger and I drove up there that ws our place. a cup of coffee and a drink of pop for son and any food. then upstairs to the shop for old programmes.

I always go before a game, makes me laugh that the vicar keeps hold of the money tin and dishes out the change etc to the old dears that serve you, doesn't trust them muchlol

It's a positive place with feel good vibes unlike the pub which is full of swearing and alcohol

Roberto went to have a look upstairs in the church, just before the end of the season (this was the day of the Dixie Wall of Fame unveiling):

I've always popped in for half hour on match days as I usually drive from South Wales to the games. Would love a few pints but I settle for tea and cakes.
