Our group is probably in the middle of those two. Don't want to sit in pubs all day but won't be wandering around museums the whole week either.

museums are boring. i'm talking about exploring the city (rent pushbikes...Berlin is perfect if you've all got bikes to get around):

- Wannsee
- Sowjet Mahnmal
- Müggelsee
- Teufelsberg
- Jüdische Mahnmal
- climbing up Siegessäule

and then evening time for drinks n that, go for Oranienstraße (rather than the similarly-named Oranienburgerstraße). for cool parties go to RAW Tempel (the remaining Berlin Wall is near here too).

but behave yoursenn :drunk: or i'll come and give yous a whipslap :whip:

i've had some english mates visit me who've been outrageously rude to the local folk, especially when in taxis. hugely embarrassing behaviour. not having them back in a hurry. Berlin is a place where people respect each other, regardless of race, age or length of doop/curve of tit.

also, don't wanna sound like a granddad, but people don't drop litter here. so watch yr mates for that. remember that this city's history is nothing like anything in dear ol' blighty. it was less than 25 years ago that it was brutally separated...things like that have given the people here social perspective, a certain kind of maturity.

you'll have lots of fun, kidda...and you'll likely make some new friends...enjoy

Depends if you're going with your other half and that. As with many capital cities, there's bits that are really touristy and bits that aren't. It pays to know a bit of the lingo as there can be tourist prices for things.

Whenever I'm there I just like walking around, listening to the music on Charles bridge, popping in cafes, eating some native food etc. If you've seen Before Sunrise, a bit like that, but in Prague rather than Vienna.

Lots of nice theatres etc. though if you wanted to see a show. Ditto things like the Kafka museum, whilst the Mucha museum is kinda cool as well.

Wow, he has a few good games in Tim's place and he gets a whole Museum dedicated to him?!? :o

Sounds like something I'd like to do, went to Warsaw last year and that was a really interesting city. Not sure if there's any comparison though, definitely not in looks anyway.

Warsaw is really lovely. Amazing that is has basically been completely rebuilt since WW2!

...
But yeah, I was there for the first half of 2010 and came across the groups of stereotypical leery beered-up little engländers...i just don't see what they get out of trips like that. Berlin's been getting them too. Seems that the cultural aspect is meaningless and it really is about cheap beer, paid-for sex and being loud.

Probably sounded well snobbish, that...but there you have it.

Costa del Sol/Magaloof/Ibeefa etc all got too expensive/boring I guess! Plus I think East European girls are the fashion nowadays...

Berlin sounds pretty cool. Gonna have to add that to my list of places to go!

@OP: I've got a mate who lives in Prague, he's been there for 4/5 years now I think, will drop him an email see what he says.

Nice one lad. And don't worry, we're not louts (y)

First thing anyone should do when going to Berlin is try get into Berghain.

yes, haha...it's like a rights-of-passage for tourists.

trick is to not dress like grunge rockers, and not act loutish in the queue. the classic of being with a couple of girls also helps.

Bit of a mixed response haha I would like to see the cultural side of Prague aswell but for a 21st I think the main priority is going to be booze im sure in the day tho a few of the lovely sights you were on about will get visited
