I have just booked Prague for the end of January for my girlfriends birthday.

Staying in Grand Majestic Plaza Hotel which looks decent in a great location, can anyone recommend some top bars and restaurants for us to go? Hidden gems...

Also, should I expect it to be pyar frabs in January?

Good traditional food and they brew their own beer. The best bar is U Cerneho vola (The Black bull) which is by the castle.

If you want to propose, go to Petrin Park, there's a statue of Karel Hynek Macha there. May day is a celebration of love in Czech, and he's written a famous poem about it. http://www.lupomesky.cz/maj/may.html is the English translation if you're interested.

It's a tradition there to stand beneath a cherry blossom tree on the 1st of May and kiss your loved one. Obviously you're not there in May, but she might still appreciate the poignancy. The park is also lovely and you have a nice view over the city, so it might be a nice walk before you get to Macha's statue.

Its a cracking city but I've only been on boozy weekends. Lots of lovely squares and plazas but probably a bit cold now to be sitting out.

The astronomical clock is a must to visit.
