“Not the result we wanted, but…”
It's nearly time for for what I've recently seen someone describe as "Britain's weird annual War Christmas" and for yet another round of 'to wear or not to wear' outrage.

Personally, I'll wear one as I've had family and friends serve in the forces and the RBL does some very good, much needed work in my humble opinion.
If you choose not to, that's fine as well.

But, there seems to be a weird co-opting of the Poppy by some of this countries more 'nationalistic' elements that see it as some sort of weird badge of patriotism and will shout and scream at those who aren't seen to be wearing one.

It's all part of this bizarre fetishisation of the 2 world wars as though they were some sort of glory years we should all yearn for from the same people.
I also find the various corporate entities trying to 'out-poppy' each other to be frankly ridiculous as well.

What's GOT's opinion?

Wear one out of respect for the sheer hell those people endured, including many of 'the enemy' who never had a choice. The saddest thing of all is the fact that war is a constant and frequently involves us. Nothing was learned from the world wars, nothing. We even see arms as a great export opportunity...beyond belief.

Respect.
