Poppies that draw millions of viewers to the Tower of London are set to come to Liverpool.

The Weeping Window, a cascade of thousands of ceramic flowers, will go on show on part of the external façade of St George’s Hall in November.

It is a section of ceramic artist Paul Cummins’ Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation which was showcased in London last year as a tribute to the fallen in World War One.

He created 888,246 poppies, each one representing a life lost in the conflict.

Liverpool is one of only three locations receiving the Weeping Window artwork this year as part of a UK-wide tour by 14-18 Now, the national organisers of the First World War Centenary Cultural Programme.

The others are the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield and Woodhorn Museum in Northumberland.

And the installation, the fourth 14-18 Now cultural initiative in Liverpool after theGiants and Dazzle Ships, will be in place in time for Liverpool’s annual Remembrance Service on November 8.

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said today: “Liverpool is honoured and privileged to be chosen to host Weeping Window.

“There’s no better location than St George’s Hall, with its intrinsic links to WW1 and the Liverpool Pals and its Cenotaph where people come to pay their respects to the war dead."

Didn't get to see these in London so quite happy they're making an appearance!

Shame poppies are red.
