Poll: Should we attempt to tie Ronald Koeman to a new, improved contract like we did with Martinez?

Should we try to tie down Koeman for longer asap?

After one season with Martinez at the helm, we gave Martinez a massive new 5-year contract, a decision which many Evertonians now may think was a mistake, considering our two following seasons of mediocrity. We had chances in both domestic cup competitions to redeem the league form, and all-round malaise, but ultimately he could not motivate the team to a couple of performances when it counted, and therefore lost his job.

Koeman signed a lucrative 3-season deal with us when he joined. There have been a couple of contentious issues, but our home-form is so strong now, he generally says the right things, and seems motivated with a no-nonsense style to achieve aims of a top-4 spot by the end of 'the project'.

There has been paper-talk and rumours of him wanting to jump ship for Barcelona, which he has talked about openly and logically, saying Barcelona is part of his history as a player, and speculation is inevitable. He has also denied being interested in the Dutch National job.

Simple poll, yes or no, on current feelings, would you be happy for us to try and extend his contract beyond a 3-season project, one season of which is nearly complete.

I would be more than happy! He has won me over not that I had doubts about him, but he has impressed me in his interviews of late, and the way he has handled some issues in the press.

I would love for some news in the summer, that he has signed a new contract, personally.

We did it with Martinez, and then paid him out £10M after his sacking, after two ultimately unsuccessful seasons in the league, where we finished bottom-half.

Phil Neville said a couple of days ago about Koeman:

"I think he has been the signing of the summer, you talk about Lukaku or losing Barkley, Everton cannot afford to lose him, because there will be clubs sniffing around Ronald Koeman. I think he has that confidence and experience to take Everton up to the next level."

What will you vote?

No. He's doing well in my opinion. He's fixed some of the wrongs of the last 2 seasons. With the rebuilding of the first team desperately needed this summer I think he's got his work cut out.

He needs to work just as hard as the players so why offer him a new contract?

Sweet suffering Christ don't some of you ever learn?! He's been here less then a season ffs, let's see what he can do next year before we tie an expensive noose around our own neck. If after next season enough progress has been made and things have improved then club should consider offering a new contract but let's actually wait and see what happens before rushing into anything.

Absolutely not.

I hope a lesson was learned with Bobby.

Let him actually achieve sommat first.

Besides, I really don't think Ronald is here for the long haul and he would not sign an extension anyway.

We can't second-guess if Koeman would sign or not. He's already been at big clubs in Europe and if he enjoys the Premier League what better club than us? Southampton is Southampton but we are Everton. I think he is enjoying it. I would at least make it known to him that we want him here longer than 3 years. He's 54 and relatively young.

For those who think wait and see, what if we finish 4th next season or win the Europa League and then he only he has one season left on his contract - and then for real, clubs with bigger reputations or money do actually come calling? It could lead to a disaster for us.

Neville Southall in the recent interview with @Adam-GOTTV said 'he's the best manager since Joe Royle'. Some praise considering David Moyes almost won us the FA Cup with no money, got us to 4th in that one great season, and Martinez's brilliant first season and near-victory in both domestic cups last season.
