The whole affair seems to be quite serious: the police have arrested some of the most powerful football agents, offices of 10 clubs searched, questioning of former technical directors, the current Club Brugge manager (Leko) is still being questioned by the police, there are searches taking place in other countries (France, Luxembourg, Serbia...), two journalists being questioned etc ... There's also an element of possible match-fixing for the play downs; two referees are being questioned (this all started by a complaint from Westerlo two years ago when they were relegated under dubious circumstances - was not hard to spot tbf).

So basically a scandal focussed around agents and fraud concerning hidden commissions and other forms of corruption. The (excessive) influence of agents.

The most prominent agent is Mogi Bayat. A French Iranian. I'm quite interested to see if there will be repercussions for other clubs/countries. He has "special" relations with a whole range of other clubs. Two of his favourite ones being Watford and Udinese. He was also involved in the Onyekuru Everton deal, another one included in that deal was Denis (a former lawyer, also being questioned atm).

I’m convinced it’s only a matter of time before a bombshell goes off in football. In sports where there’s far less money at stake we’ve seen cheating, match fixing, corruption, doping etc. But in football absolutely nothing aside from isolated incidents of racism or paedophilia. There’s so many interested parties with so much cash tied up in football it’s impossible to think that they’re quite happy with the whole thing being random. How we got to a situation where a company who owns the broadcasting rights are paying the clubs it televises and also them running a bookmaker betting on the matches of these clubs is ridiculous.

What are 'play downs' ?

What are 'play downs' ?

Form of relegation play-offs. It was a joke. If you look at Kortrijk Moeskroen from 2017, everybody can see that the game was heavily manipulated (by the players). Same last year when they had to win 0-3 and wonder above wonder they did... I hope they finally get their comeuppance.

I think (and hope) they are interviewing the referees as witnesses, because I didn't see anything fishy from their side. Like the journalists, witnesses. Would be quite stupid of them to get involved, especially the one who's an international referee. He did the Apollon Everton game last year (0-3 win for Everton if I remember correctly).

Lukakus fault

Incidentally they stole Lukaku's money. There's also an investigation into Henrotay (Lukaku's former agent).

This man. It's not related to Bayat-gate though. He has allegedly withheld millions on the transfers of Lukaku, Tielemans and Dendoncker. In the form of illegal commissions and constructions using companies abroad.

I hope they all go down together.

Honestly Club Brugge supporters are by far the most deluded, idiotic supporters in Belgium. Their blind support of their "heroes" knows no bounds. A few of them are staying outside of the police building where their manager is residing to support him. Idiots. If you play for them you can get away with just about everything.

Dont hold your breath, only here in summer the EPL confirmed they engineer (not random draws) the fixtures so the top teams don't play each other at key times, hardly an eye battered...

The UK establishment have been masters of the cover-up for centuries. Football, via sky subscriptions, has been an epic way of taking money from the common man and filtering it to the controlling few. The establishment love that kind of thing, so long as they get their slice. Keep the media sweet they turn a blind eye too.

It would astound me if the same happened here.

No blue&black unfortunately. For the rest the similarities are quite striking. They've adopted YNWA, they also attack buses, they think they are the best fans in the world ...

They've become extra intolerable since they started winning things again. Horror.

Shame because they have a great squad.

Yeah makes it all the worse. I'm hoping for Genk, they also have a very good squad (they lost mid-week to Sarpsborg in the EL but that was a blip). Especially their midfield with Sander Berge, Malinovski and Pozuelo. I'm assuming that the first one will end up somewhere in the PL quite fast, like Ndidi his predecessor.

Some lad on the transfer thread mentioned Berge as being good
What position does he play and would he suit the PL
I see Dendoncker has not played one minute for Wolves and a coule Of windows ago he was announced as the second coming
