not happy are they?! are we gonna have to bring the army in ffs!?
seriously tho, cant remember the police being this upset or political before, interesting

Against the law for them to strike as well.

I had a copper complaining about proposed pension changes. I told her that whilst I agree that if something was in place then it shouldn't be taken away, but.... they are both coppers, they plough the max that they can into their pension (always skint and tbh tight) now as far as I can gather, the amount they put in is matched by their employer, the state. So, if we are all being told that there may not be a state pension for us then why on earth should the govt be matching their overpayments ? They will have more coming in in retirement than they get paid now. I also explained that I have no pension as I can't afford one, I cant afford to make up the shortfall in my state one either from when I had to go abroad to find work.
Complaining to someone that they wont be as well off as they were gonna be, yet far better off than them and expecting them to be outraged for them.
They aren't arsed about changes to the state one as they won't need to rely on it at all.

**** them anyway, i've met 3 sound officers in me life, the rest have been utter ********s.

Quite. I had a boss once who was on a decent wedge, and his wife was high up in a big multinational as well, so between them they must have been clearing well over 100k, yet he was fuming when the government took away some child benefit or other because he'd been using that to pay for a holiday each year.

Guess the morale of the story is that whether something is fair or not, once you give people something they'll fight tooth and nail to make sure they don't lose it.

It should be said that this applies to the govt as well as individuals. That's why supposedely temporary taxes like income tax ended up as anything but.

Serious point ( I know it doesn't sound it, but it is ) ... if they went on strike and broke the law, what copper in the country would arrest one of his mates ?

There's a firm that are expected to volunteer to control any pickets and make citizens arrests if need be, using whatever force is required obviously.
They'll be kitted out in case the cops have gas, dust or decide to protest into the night.

The issue is that police are taking more hits than other public sector workers presumably because they don't have the right to strike.

I know loads of people here are anti police but imagine if you turned up for work and were told that not only were you going to have your salary frozen but you were going to lose all your bonuses, have overtime rate reduced, have to carry a higher workload, have you're pension contribution increased over a longer period of time, be subject to redundancy and no longer be looked after if you suffer a serious injury at work?

You would be a bit p*ssed off no?

As much as I hate it when they stop you walking down the street just because they need to get their IC1's up, we'd all be ****ed if it wasn't for the police. And I tell you what, we are so lucky we don't have the police forces around Europe who are essentially, just another gang.

I'll always respect and be grateful for what we have having been acosted by some of the horrible pricks abroad.

People of my age might not receive a state pension until they're 77. I'm very sorry but the police and other public sector workers have to join the real world with the rest of us.
