fantastic, cheers! any chance of the water spraying out when i do this?

Turn the stopcock off mate. Will be on the water pipe, often near where it leaves the house. And once you have shut that, TEST THE COLD TAP IN CASE YOU HAVE FULLY OPENED IT INSTEAD!!!

I assume plumbing in the UK works like it does here...

Before you break down the tap, turn off the water

You should have a cover that unscrews, from there you should have a copper valve or similar. The valve should screw on/off (to open/close the water) and screw into the larger plumbing fixture.

Once you find the problem, liberally apply sawdust.

Faucet, meh, USMNT etc etc

@tommye

One more thing i need to ask, how do i take the top off the tap? No idea how to do that, had a check last night. Its pretty much this tap

Chris you can repair the valve 9/10 times.
Just take apart, file, clean & grease the hexagonal piston and put back together.
It's easy to round off the valve as well so use a ring spanner (usually 17mm).
And use a wrench to hold the tap so the whole thing doesn't turn.
Put a cloth over the tap to prevent scratching it.
