Play Drenthe up top

Fast, direct, runs at players, great strike, can finish, bags of energy, defensive liability......play him up front. Our other options are pathetic:

Saha - quality but disinterested, unhappy with Moyes, disillusioned, hates being the lone furrow up top, looking for one last pay day (china anyone?)

Cahill - Game over, too many years of putting his body on the line in games and on planes, 32 for Tim is 36 for most. legend but done. Oh yes, not a striker either.

Vellios - best off bench for now, raw.

Mceleny - As above, shows quality, but feels a bit like the branch/cadamarteri/Barlow days (rather than Rooney days) when he comes on

Anichebe - crap and injured

Landon - well it might work in tandem with Saha, but many feel he is a better midfielder, I am sure he will get his chance up top. Hope he takes it.

I said this, just based on the fact he's fast as [Poor language removed] and can be a liability defensively.

But if he's never played there before and has even been at left back so...

No. He doesn't have the style to play with his back to goal which is required even if you want to use him as a poacher. He has to have the game in front of him to play properly, running at players, going on the outside of them etc.

He's every bit the winger. He'd be thoroughly wasted up front.

Has anybody ever said hes a defensive liability?

Watch him in games, he tracks back ALL the time, I think its just a myth started by the Anti-Moyes gang.

Moyes has heavily implied he is.

Which is nonsense as he's got a great workrate and doesn't shy away from tackles.

We don't have enough creativity to constantly get him into the game from that position. He'd just end up struggling for space and go searching for the ball. He has more ability in possession than Donovan so he can stay wide right, where he's a goal threat anyway, so it doesn't really make much of a difference. He's not a defensive liability either, I'm still struggling to get my head around that one. Not every wide player holds hands with his fullback for 90 minutes.

Aye. I was disappointed to see him deployed on the left in our last game. Especially when, if you ask me, Ossie is better on the left than the right anyway. Although he obviously should be in the centre but that's another can of worms...

Anyway, I'd like to see Donovan and Drenthe on opposite flanks. That would at least make us switching our widemen round a viable tactic as Coleman is woeful on the left. Plus having genuine pace and creativity on each flank makes me do a little sex wee in excitement.

Yeah well Moyes needs to shut his trap.

Hes spouting some utter tosh recently.

Indeed.

I think Drenthe tracking back is fine. I shudder with fear every time he has the ball in his own third, though. He's made some really poor decisions there.

Still, the guy has to play. Keeping him far up the pitch is a good idea, if practical.

my 9 month old son has just done a big poo while I was thinking of something to write about Drenthe up front. I don't think I need to add anything more as my boy has already said it!

I think that'd be fine, Donovan can use both feet and has played there during his career. I actually thought he had one of his better games for us on the left against Manchester Utd during his first spell here. At the very least it gives us options and players like Osman can be used in the centre on a more regular basis.
