Player Valuation: £35m
supposedly atletico madrid are interested, and with only two years left on his contract, Pienaar wants everton to secure him long term, though everton haven't moved to do that yet.

i really hope this isn't true, his absences last year showed us how important of a player he is, i absolutely would hate to see him go.

but says that if Everton offered him a new extension to his contract he would be prepared to commit himself to longer at Goodison Park.

Thats nearly the same thing that Mbia said and he was called all names under the sun.

Ungrateful little clown, we saved his career and this is how he repays us, sell him and sell him NOW.

maybe i'm just not good at reading between the lines with footballer talk, but how is a raise in salary and a contract extension the same thing?

He said similar things when we made his loan permanent, won't be a problem if he gets a new contract.

He is after a new contract but from what I have seen Moyes likes to leave it unhtil a year to go. Must be needing the extra pay because of Brown's 50% tax band.

He's been playing for a new contract, not that i'm bothered as he's been top notch but he's been playing for you. Hopefully he plays like he has even if he doesn't want one.

I've always viewed him as someone who would join a top club as soon as someone decent came in for him, his 3 year deal suggested that but i know for a fact that he brushed off Arsenal before we signed him permanent.

It was strange that he only got a three year contract.

I'd be gutted to see him leave, fantastic player and by far our most hardworking. He's got so much energy.

There aint no maybe about it........

Normally, unless the player is over 30, when they sign extensions, they get a pay raise.

that doesn't mean its his motivation, unlike mbia he didn't state explicitly that money was the issue

two years isn't a lot of time, and several players have just signed long-term contracts, maybe he just wants to make sure he's part of the teams long term plans, which is completely reasonable imo

Or maybe hes seeing other players getting a pay raise and he wants 1. Hes got 2 years left, all he needs to do is continue to put in the performances and he will get a new deal next season.

Suppose it depends how commited to us he is.

Ah, rubbish. It's no more a matter of making sure he has some security. We've extended Howard, Lescott, Jagielka, and Yobo recently - why wouldn't Everton extend the same to Pienaar? Can you honestly blame a player for keeping options open?

If someone else were to come and offer me double wages, I'd certainly hear what they've got to say. If it was worth my time, I'd then come back to my current employer and see just how much I am worth to them - I like where I work so I'd be willing to stay for certainly less but if my employer were to tell me thanks but [Poor language removed], I'd be off to double wages land.

I think most would agree that he's easily earned (at a minimum) extension discussions. He was brilliant coming down the stretch - far better than his early season performance.

So he performed better at the end of the season, hmmmmmm. Isnt that normally the time when pay raises or transfers are made.

read the article, his quotes make it sound more like he's afraid of getting sold, and the fact that moyes hasn't offered him a new contract indicates that the club may be looking to sell him, i really don't think you can compare what he's done to m'bia
