Phil Neville. Why?

Neville is a waste of space - an utter embarassment in an Everton shirt. Playing Neville sums Moyes up he loves this type of player - mediocre.
Ross Barkley is a class player but unfortunately he got injured in playing in a nothing game in the week. Ross should walk into a central midfield position but Moyes would rather play Neville or some other no mark.

99% agree.

Would say Barkley's more of a 'no mark' than Neville though. Neville's had a long and successful career in comparison to Barkley's 2 league starts.

Agree with someone in the thread who said that when they see Neville in the line-up, their heart sinks. To me it instantly indicates a lack of creativity. Need the game shut down, bring him in. At the start? No way.

Neville shouldn't be starting in CM. Close a game near the end.. Fine. Start him at RB... Fine. Start at CM... No way or no need.
Tbh I wouldn't start Barkley there either. He's a ACM and a young one at that.
Id go for Cahill there before nev if needs be. Heitinga there before nev if needs be. Would love to sign benega for there if I'm truly honest but...

Please not Neville there at the start against Swansea!

I'd play Jagielka there before Nev too. Serious here, Nev's that bad. Cahill there is a good shout though, he started from there anyway, if I'm not mistaken.

I doubt Barkley was fit after playing 120 minutes in the week mate.

If you were 18 and just signed a long-term contract at the club you love in the Premier League, would you be feeling that tired or unfit after playing 2 hours a few days earlier in a youth league game. I doubt Barkley did. I think it is safe to say, given the chance, he would have been on that pitch Saturday, giving his all and making more of an impact than one or two of his more 'established' colleagues did!

I've said about dropping Cahill deeper into CM if Fellaini or Rodwell are injured and going with 2 up front or Barkley in the hole.

But that's far too attacking for Moyes.

His crosses are better than Hibbos when he is playing RB. Other than then that he doesn't offer anything special when he plays in the middle.

agreed

Use the words hammer nail and head here

I'm going to start this by saying Phil Neville has been one of Moyes' best signings, a model professional, decent player and one of the club's greatest captains for years. I haven't got an agenda against the man because I think with his charity work and what not he's a great fella and a credit to the club.

However, he should never start in midfield against anyone but a few teams unless the squad's been decimated by H1N1 or another crazy disease. His passing's awful.

In the past he's charged around the pitch like a baboon on amphetamines pointing and screaming at everything in sight while crunching players and scaring the sh*t out of your David Silvas. Which is why he's alright when we need to defend and scrap against Arsenal, City, United etc.

But when we play Norwich at home he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near centre midfield. Of course Rodwell wasn't fully fit and Barkley wasn't even on the bench, but I would have liked to see Drenthe wide and Osman in the centre. Or possibly Cahill dropping into a more defensive role and playing 2 up front or Bily behind the striker. A centre midfield of Fellaini/Neville isn't near creative enough.

In summary, I think

Neville in midfield when we play teams we need to scrap and defend against: OK.

Neville in midfield when we need creativity and attacking force: Ridiculously bad.

Views?
