So what do people drive, from my time in the UK it seems more and more are moving to tractor fuel, Ireland at this stage is basically a petrol free nation. I find it a bit ridiculous but what do most drive on here?

35k is diesel territory, cant argue with that but IMO too many people get diesels because they think they are more economical but end up losing money on repairs and/or not really 'saving' much money at all.

If you are driving around the city all the time, no point getting a diesel. No benefit, but motorway driving it works out better.

Diesel works out cheaper if you drive 6000 miles or more per year from new, 10,000 from used.

Bit of a myth all this stuff about petrol being a 'drivers car', modern diesel engines are fine and plenty are just as good to drive as petrol cars. Noise isn't an issue anymore either.

Some of the Diesel engines are actually faster, I'm pretty sure that's the case on Audi A6

Hahaha, for everyday cars modern diesels are great, but high powered petrols being drivers cars isn't a 'myth' at all.

I drive a lexus and after stepping out and hearing diesel cars parked around me (and I dont mean right next to me), its clear Diesels are quite a good bit away from petrols in terms of refinement. Even diesels just a few years old have less than gracious emissions at traffic lights.
