Pele

Saw him play for the New York Cosmos in 1976 or 77 in Seattle vs the Sounders in the old NASL. He scored two and the whole place went wild.

I was 6 or 7 years old and remember being worried that all the noise might bring the roof down.

For me as a 6 year old the Kingdome was gigantic, beautiful, and scary fragile...guessing this is why is didn't trust concrete as a kid:

This happened well before I was born but was a bit of local history that lived on well after because we were the folks that needed that bridge.

Anyway I spent more time watching the giant concrete roof than I did watching the footy.

I was born in 89. I don't know if you remember the Rochester Lancers of the NASL, I met a lot of the guys who played against him and the guy who was tasked with man marking him all over the field. He still has a coin Pele gave him after the game he keeps on him and some other things he gave him at his house. Was really cool to talk to the guy, and the Pele, Cosmo stories in general are great stuff.

He's always had a history of talking utter tripe. remember 'A team from Africa will win the World Cup before 2000'? Or the 1990 classic 'Columbia will win this World Cup, they are the best team in the competition'?

People just hang on every word of the cockwombling pifflewit because 'it's Pele'...

Time to unmask the clown. George Best would have run rings round him after ten pints in a Manchester club, and likewise Johan Cruyff, who would have done him with the Cruyff Turn while lighting a Capstan Full Strength...

I see a trend here... He supported Colombia and an impoverished continent with a population mostly of a different color than you probably... and you also point out George Best (what an admirable character) and Cruyff were way better.

The guy was wrong about two predictions regarding football and I'm seeing way more aggression than what's warranted in your post.

After posting that I started to dig a bit, and I'm pretty sure I attended the first sporting event at the Kingdome.

Who knew? Certainly not me. My mom barely remembers it. She sat right next to me. So vivid in my head. That giant place covered in concrete in an earthquake zone...I might have issues with the Kingdome.

I read somewhere that brazilians don't like Pele much because he's seen as someone who just allies with whoever is in political power. Jairzonho is apparently the real hero of the people

You don't 'do' humour, do you? :)
