Fergie was old school, Pogba like all young players needed to earn his way up to the first team but during his time in the reserves was often too lazy, coasted through games and was outshone by Morrison. Oh well, we poached him off Le Havre controversially anyway.

He's a top talent and as I said looks to be nailed on for Madrid the way he's going. One positive is that his agent Raiola has no influence at United
(from wiki)

Ahead of the start of the 2011–12 season, Ferguson confirmed that Pogba would feature with the senior team during the season, stating: "I mean if we hold Pogba back, what's going to happen? He's going to leave. You know, in a couple of years' time when his contract is going to finish. So we have to give him the opportunity to see how he can do in the first-team and he's got great ability"

Is there a possibility Ferguson mistakenly thought he had an extra year to go on his contract

Might have been the reason the initial bids for Stones were low as were planning on spending a huge amount of their transfer budget on Pogba.

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba rejected a £62m move to Chelsea, according to Italian newspaper Gazetta dello Sport.
The transfer, which would have seen the French youngster earn an annual salary of £8.7m, would also have led to Brazilian playmaker Oscar moving in the opposite direction. Despite Jose Mourinho's summer-long pursuit of the 22-year-old, Pogba decided against a move a few days before the transfer window closed.

The former Manchester United player, who moved to Juventus in 2012, opted to stay in Turin and remain as the Italian giants' talisman. Following the recent exit of Carlos Tevez to Boca Juniors, Pogba has been awarded the club's hallowed number 10 shirt, worn by Bianconieri legends such as Michel Platini, Roberto Baggio and Alessandro Del Piero.

Man u must be gutted they let this kid leave on a free, could end up being one of fergie biggest blunders
his contract was up, refused to sign a new one, he could go wherever he wanted like any other unattached footballer.

what more could they do except give an untried 18 year old a first team place? Even then Fergie said he was running down his contract to join Juventus. The deal had already been done 6 month earlier.

How is that 'letting him go'? they had no choice in the matter.

He annoyed the kid when he brought schoes out of retirement and progba believe he was ready for a chance in the first team. This w as the moment he decided to leave.

How many 17/18 year olds have we had demand to be in the first team and the manager decide they aren't ready? Quite a few I imagine.
How many of those did the manger play 'so they wouldn't feel annoyed'?

Do they wish he'd signed a new contract? yes, certainly. Was Fergie going to be told who to play and who not to play by an kid and his Agent? you must be joking..
What do you think Bobby would do if one of the U18s came in and told him that he has to be playing in the first team or else?

At the end of the day, he agreed a contract elsewhere, ran his contract down and left on a free. Utd didn't 'let him leave'

The kid wanted a chance and he was offended when scholes was brought back in after retiring. Fergie was stubborn as he didn't want to be told what to do but he has a diamond on his hands and didnt handle it well.

He's unreal. People say "he's gonna be one of the best in the world".

He isn't, he already is!
Aye the lads class. Hasn't started the season too well as he's trying on his own to do the work left by Pirlo and Vidal.

Can only get better.
