Why do some companies make passwords so bloody difficult? Tried to reset my apple id password, requirement is minimum 8 letters, 1 number, 1 uppercase and 1 lowercase. I do this but it keeps saying the password is too easy to guess and I have to choose another one.
Just bloody p1ss off apple, I did what you told and it is still not enough, now I have to choose a password I have no chance of remembering.
I also have a customer database I have to use for work, have to change my password every month and I am not allowed to use any of my previous 25 passwords. Who the hell can remember the last 25 passwords. So of course, you have to make a document which lists all your passwords which sort of defeats the purpose of a password.

Worst is when you try to login somewhere that needs all that messing around with special characters and capital letters but it doesn't say you do. You know you've got the right password but it's still telling you it's not right because you forgot to capitalise one letter and then it locks you out and you have to go through all the messing around with resetting the password and when it asks you to put the new password in all you can do is fume when it says "Password must contain at least 1 upper case letter, 1 number and one special character."

It's not even like it really boosts security relative to the user friendliness either. I know mathematically having all this gives each character about 50 new permutations but it only takes one scammer to set up a dodgy email with a link to a site that looks identical to the real one where you put your password in unknowingly and then all that messing around is for nothing. It doesn't matter how secure the password is if the person who's supposed to keep it a secret either can't remember it because they're not bloody computers or give it away because they were conned.

Yep, I was talking to a lad who worked in a bank, he was going about passwords, he had loads of them.

I hate when they ask you, 'you're password will expire in 7 years time', 'Do you wish to change it now?'.

Pad your password.

Add ... Or *** to the beginning and end of your password eg:

...Password1... Or ***Password1***

Easyto remember and super difficult to crack!!! ( Obvs replace Password1' with something else)

This is an excellent article of password search space and entropy:

Worse than passwords is sites that show an image that you have to study for about 6 hours before you tick the right boxes that have a shop front in them, or a street sign, to prove you are not a robot.

Spot on.

It'd be much easier to focus on the images, if they were of naked midget ladies engaged in various forms of sexual activity
