A question for any legal types we may have amongst us:

Given that it is a form of sexual abuse to knowingly allow a child to be exposed to sexual material, would this include allowing children to play video games with a sexual content?

Similarly, is it an offense to allow exposure to excessively violent content and if not, why the distinction between that and sexual content?

I think most of the time parents haven't got a clue what their kids are playing. Mine wouldn't buy me San Andreas so I just got my cousin to get it for me and they were non the wiser. Same with one of the early Call of Duty's - they saw me playing it in his and wouldn't buy me it so I just lent his.

Think parents should try and stop really young kids playing such games, but kids will always find a way round it and by the time they're 11/12 it doesn't make a difference anyway as long as they're not easily influenced/mental.

I know this is nothing to do with the law like, but still.

Mate, the world has gone mad. I watched channel 18 on cable when I was 10/11 years old and it didn't do me any harm. I also watched violenct movies and play grand theft auto and various fighting games, I also grew up listening to gangsta rap. I can hold my hands up and say I have never been influenced by any of it, I know the difference between right and wrong. At the age of 13 I was basically left to my own devices and I brought myself up through my teenage years, I rarely drink, I've never smoked or took any type of drug. I have vision, direction and determination in life to succeed and I'm a good person.

I'm the poster boy for your argument, you can't ask fairer than that.

Don't panic mate. Tell them nothing and call Saul ASAP.

Fairly sure you were telling a story about how you went mental and nearly sparked out your ex girlfriend's brother or something.

PERFECTLY NORMAL.

Birds sisters boyfriend and that isn't influenced by video games or violent movies. That was an incident that needed dealing with. I was also young at the time.

I'm very wise for a man in his 20's

Whilst I'm sure that there are plenty of examples of 'it done me no harm', I'm more interested in the legality. I will say that I don't think we know what the long term effects are yet, particularly when we are talking about young children.

If I had to wait until the age of 18 to watch my first horror movie or whatever then I would be the only person in the world to do that. What these laws the OP is talking about my work on paper but they don't work in the real world, that's why this government is so out of touch with us.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Maybe that was what did you the obvious harm. You beat [Poor language removed] outta some lad at your bird's 18th because he was being funny and gettin more attention than you. And you told someone you'd kill their mum on this the other day. Not to forget your mate who pretended to stab a fella on TV with a knife, posted pictures of it on the Internet and then was defended by you. Plus your constant attention seeking and making up lies.

You're not the poster boy for a liberal attitude on video games and TV, Mick.

A parent should have an idea of how impressionable their child is IMO.

While I'd be inclined to use the 'never did me any harm as a kid' line, there probably should be a level of censorship as some things in video games are just inappropriate for a little kid to see.

Perhaps parents should do some research into whatever game their kid wants themselves. They'd gain a better understanding as opposed to dismissing a game purely on a number on the bottom left-hand corner of the case.

I say this, as there are loads of 15+/18+ films that aren't really that bad for a kid to watch. And the same applies for games.

Mick thinking he's dead hard on the internet

LOL

Bet he sleeps with the lights on the bad sh1t bag
