Spent the weekend in Moscow the other week, it was absolutely crap. Russia is a seriously depressed place in every sense of the word. The bird I was seeing describes herself as not being a typical Russian as she is always smiling and laughing all the time. We traveled around on the Metro and everyone was so bloody depressed. Nobody smiles, in fact they think you are a weirdo if you smile. They don't say please or thank you either and they are incredibly abrupt, I thought the bird was having an argument with every single person she spoke to in Russian but she explained that it's just the way they speak to each other.

They don't use taxis either. They just stick their hands out and hitch lifts with random strangers. I told her that this is considered to be dangerous behaviour in the UK but she did not get it at all. I tried telling her about Peter Sutcliffe but she still didn't get it. Thing is, they were happy to give lifts to strangers, which is at odds with their otherwise depressed and unfriendly behaviours. We were in the middle of nowhere at one point and could not hitch a lift off anyone so we ended up getting on this little minibus service, it was like something out of Borat and I was getting a few funny looks as they could tell I was not Russian.

I asked her about Pu$$y Riot and she said they were just a publicity stunt, and inferred that their supposed motives were insincere and that nobody takes them seriously in Russia.

Really depressing if that is the genuine attitude of young Russians. Jesus.

Unfortunately the Cossacks or whoever they are just the latest to have fallen for the bait. Because they battered the girls, it becomes worldwide news. If they had just left them alone, no-one would have heard about or cared about a few girls dancng and singing badly.
