The rain, it raineth every day
After recently watching Ben Hur, I'll go with biblical epics :

Angelic voices
White Jesus with long hair
Massive statues
Trumpets galore
Alluring dancing girls
A cast of thousands
Miscast American film stars, I'm looking at you John Wayne.
Torture scenes, usually involving whips.
Deep and dank dungeons
A reformed criminal

I have nothing to add to the thread, just wanted to congratulate you on the use of the word 'tropes' which is now my word of the week. I'll be trying to squeeze it into as many conversations as possible. lol

1. Every disease creates Zombies.
2. Vampires and warewolves fall in love (of course)
3. A couple arguing and hating one another in scene 1 will fall in love by the end of the film.
4. Invasion, all is lost, the US save the day from a devastated White House, you can feel a salute the flag coming on. Pan out to people cheering near Westminster / the Eiffel tower and bunch of people around a very wearing turbans also cheer.
5. Deserted spaceship - everybody turned into zombies.
6. Teenagers go to a lake house for a break.... Zombies.
7. Volcano (never the right type for the location) threatens everything on the planet unless a woman with a laptop can convince a man of the solution.

The above covers around 95% of Hollywood output I feel.
