Taking Lukaku's goal out of the Premier League equation...

Stoke (A) No scorer
Arsenal (A) No scorer
Leicester (H) Naismith, og
Chelsea (A) No scorer
Liverpool (H) No scorer
Palace (A) No scorer
West Brom (H) No scorer
City (H) Naismith
Hull (A) No scorer
Newcastle (A) Kone, Mirallas
Stoke (H) No scorer
Southampton (A) No scorer
QPR (H) Barkley, Mirallas, og
City (A) No scorer
Hull (H) No scorer
Spurs (A) Mirallas
West Ham (H) Osman

In 17 games: Naismith 2, Mirallas 2, og 2, Kone, Osman. If Lukaku's goals didn't count, we've failed to score in 11 of our last 17 games.

Yeah cos 28 million pound strikers are just padding.

He can't do it all by himself. Naismith and Mirallas need better than 2 in 17 games and Barkley certainly needs better than 1 in 17. We need goals from Baines and Coleman too. We need to start sharing responsibility.

It doesnt look like hes managing to do it by himself.

If you play unbalanced sides and 3 DMs dont expect to score actual goals.

He'll only cost £28m if he and we get success, I'd rather have a 21 year old with his record of goals behind him for £24m rather than paying £12m for the likes of Shane Long or Ross McCormack.

Major shortage of goals from the rest of the squad. If Kone had been available more I dare say he would have chipped in a few times. The Midfielders record is very poor. Must improve. Just like everything/one about our players.

Considering how crap we've been this season, he's not done badly to score the goals that he has.

His all round play is gash like but he will improve. In a confident side that creates chances he would be close to twenty goals now.

A large part of the reason the team hasn't scored goals is because of Lukaku. He doesn't hold the ball up or get others into play, so the attacking unit doesn't flow.

There's every chance that without Lukaku we'd have scored more goals in the league this year. In fact, given he's scored the same amount of goals as all three of Stoke's strikers despite playing effectively every game, I'm fairly sure we would have done.

He isnt a Kevin Cbell or John Hartson type he doesnt do the hold up stuff with back to goal well because he just isnt that type of player. Cutting the ball through midfield and isolating him in a sprinting and wrestling match versus a defender is his type of game - its all about the match ups.

Sadly sides have learned to strangle us in midfield and when we do have the ball and time to pass the defence takes a step back making the obvious and easy ball one he steps into facing our midfield instead of attacking the space between opposition goalkeeper and opposition defence - effectively strangling his strongest facet of play. Our complete lack of alternative playing means we just keep playing to his weaknesses game after game after game.

We were linked recently with some other monster of a striker thats near 6 feet 5 so it appears Martinez is aware that we need a Lacina Traore type to do the graft Lukaku isnt great at but do we have the personnel to go classic 442?
