University authorities are investigating the distasteful goings on after Stirling University FC held a night out on Thursday apparently themed on the African Cup of Nations being staged in Equatorial Guinea.

Around 30 players were pictured wearing football strips with their faces painted black, according to the BBC.

A spokesman told the BBC that the university had a "zero-tolerance approach to racism".

"African Cup of Nations social tonight for some of the boys...we all know SUFC do the best night outs," said a Tweet from the football team that was later deleted.

Be soft if they get into trouble for it.

But you have to be one hell of an arsehole to go to the bother of painting your entire face black. Like it's not exactly a spur of the moment thing, is it.

Still better that than liverpool shirts.

Is it racist to dress up and look like someone? Surely racism must carry some sort of intent? I'm not trying to take Nik's mantle here, but not long ago a fashion designer was ripped to pieces over having a model wear native American Indian headress...does that mean fancy dress parties are out now?

It's a confusing world.

If I remember rightly, that was because they were wearing headdresses which you have to earn through combat.

The native americans in question thought it was the same as if you got a model to wear a victorian cross.

Totally agree, but they've been incredibly stupid to think this wouldn't be perceived as racist. There's certain things that we all know are going to be received badly when done and this is one of them.

What about wearing a sherriff's badge if you dressed up as part of the cowboys group though?

I doubt killing a couple of wilderbeast equates to a VC anyway, bloody natives...
