Our young players - overhyped?

Most clubs youngsters are overhyped by their own fans, you always think the youth will be boss, when in actual fact, most clubs are lucky to have 1 good young player every 5 or 6 years.

Ours dont get that much game time to be honest.

Others mentioned have gone on loan.

I think that's part of the problem. Moyes wrapping the lads in cotton wool builds up the anticipation and the young lads must feel so much pressure when they do get a game. I don't think it helps that he gives them a game or two and then takes them out of the squad altogether. It must crush their confidence.

Did you put that in the right thread mate?!
It's what our American friends call a curve-ball, and rather neatly thrown in as well. Just relevant enough to make you wonder if you've had too much to drink, but not so relevant that feel you have to answer it directly

Bravo Reidy, well played.

We do have a tendency to over hype our players, more out of hope and desperation than anything else. A load of the players we have at the moment coming through won't make it at this level, that's how it is.

I do believe that Barkley will go on to fulfil his promise though. He's ace.

Ross Barkley is a legitimate special talent, no question. The rest... as the OP says, we have some decent youngsters, some may make the grade, some will not, but I don't think we're overhyping any of them.

as appose to are "superstars" neville and hibbert. how the fk them two robbed a livin is beyond me, as to the thread they piss all over them two, so back to the manager....

I'm not sure whether we over-hype them or desperately just want them to be as superstars because we can't buy any, i also think it can be a double edged sword as it only leads to bitter disappointment when they turn out to be gash(michael branch anyone). I think Barkley will fulfill his potential and as much as I want to see him get more game time there are a certain number of fans who expect him to lead us into europe, he is 17 thats a lot of pressure for a kid in his first season as a full pro. I like the loan system and DM seems to be using it more this season which will benefit the youngf players getting first team football. Goodison can be an unforgiving place when the team is not playing great just as much as it can be a 12th man when things are on point, some kids can handle it some can't you never know until they are tested.
