Dwight McNeil's goal yesterday left me happy - pure football - in a glimpse I shut my eyes that could have been Johnny Morrissey on the left wing going past players with tricky footwork - as he was never blessed with pace, but had the most deceptive quick fast feet right or left - then the impetuous back heel into McNeil's path to score I had a vision of Bally in mind thats how the Trinity played for 90 minutes in many games -

John Robertson of Nottingham Forest was very comparable with Morrissey as a winger, if that helps so skilful, but not fast

It's the best team goal I have seen us produce for years, skill wise McNeil is still an unknown quantity as to what position he can play for us - it's early days for him, but our manager now has to fetch consistency in that midfield as if you have a pacey engine room with pace & skill that works it fetches goals - as yesterday proved - one swallow does not make a summer, but we have to build on that performance with consistency ....

Joey I agree but must add that our 2nd goal was a thing of beauty also in a 'team work' sense
Yes I agree with that - my main point is if your midfield plays in a dynamic way the rest of the jig saw comes together - it's still early days under Frank, but we need consistency like that the whole team clicked the same team plodding in a performance away at Newcastle ....

From 1967-1970 we used to go as fans not thinking would we win, but by how many we would score as the game was in the bag before entering the ground we went to be entertained - yes we had the occasional blip - but it was rare - The midfield area like in the 1980s is where you win games if your strikers are good they need support, & skill to be given the chance to score e.g. a great midfield & two solid defenders - which both of our successful teams had in both eras .....

I've often thought some of our players were more suited to quick intricate football like we displayed yesterday. As you say, very much Ball-Harvey- Kendall who I was fortunate to get taken to see as a kid. Look at Iwobi...from past dawdling wayward passes in slow play (usually to the opposition) to crisp, decisive passing and thinking ahead bringing players in quickly. More, please.

Surely McNeill's and our second will feature in goal of the month. And here was me shouting yesterday at the game, after McNeill's goal, 'goal of the season, goal of the season'. Joey I have this image that Husband did a similar run as McNeil - can't remember if it led to a goal, I think it did. McNeill's goal was pure poetry in motion.

Husband played across the line & was lightning fast - -McNeil's run was on the left & he beat his men with footwork like Moggs used to do - Iwobi's back heel was like a cheeky Bally in his pomp :D
