(I must be on a roll, three thread starters in one day. I usually don't do that in a month. Consider yourselves lucky. :P)

After grinding out some recent performances, it's caused me to think that our extended Euro campaign along with our recent injury woes has started to take a bit of a toll on our squad.

I wasn't surprised by the 1-0 win yesterday nor was I completely surprised by the manner in which it was accomplished.

We've pointed to the form of various players and the availability of various players, especially more so in the past month than at any other time during the season.

Add to that the recent heartbreaking defeats to Fiorentina, Fulham, and Liverpool and a drab tie with West Ham and you've had a recipe for underachievement.

It will be interesting to see how the squad responds over the last five matches of the season as their dip in form couldn't have come at a worse time with Liverpool 3 points ahead of us and Portsmouth breathing down our neck.

If you add up the amount of points we've thrown away against inferior opposition (the likes of West Ham, Fulham, Reading, Blackburn to a lesser extent), we'd be in 4th for sure. Ho hum!

Equally though we've got an outstanding record against the bottom half of the table. Across the season we're averaging around 2/2.5 points per game against the bottom half. The top half teams have done much better against us but we've generally beaten those we should have done.

I would contend as well Welton, that we've been on the receiving end of shocking decisions as well which could have added a good 4-6 points on to our present tally.

Form has not been great recently. However, we churned out a win yesterday and its all about points now. lets hope it has put us back on track
