Taking out cahill makes such a big difference to our attacking play. All our 5 midfielders were inventive and creative. I've never seen us play with so much variation and flair.
We didn't restrict ourselves only to crossing. There were so many pockets of space to exploit because of an extra creative outlet, makes us unpredictable and hard to defend against.
The amount of through balls and counter attack we did was impressive. Thoughts?

Peanut was up front so he didn't have to fight for the ball with Arteta so that was a plus. We also have attacking options on the right and left now instead of the left.

However saying we are better off without Cahill, I'm not going to buy it. We may lose some creativity but we are weak on free kicks and corners and he provides a physical presence in the box. Sometimes you have to get goals in the air (or Arsenal would be running away with the title) and Cahill provides that threat.

We don't need to rely so heavily on free kick and corners for our goals. We scored 3 goals from open play today. One of the goals came from a drag back low cross. We're more effective and eye pleasing playing this way than putting in cross after cross which Saha hardly fancy and Cahill hardly having a sniff at times.

Everyone goes on about Cahill, but I feel Fellaini is a much bigger loss.

We played the ball around very well today, even if I thought our defence looked dodgy in the first half.

We look very good on the pitch, 2nd derby accepted, and actually look like we are a top 4 side.

We MUST avoid complications to our preseason and season start next year, and if we can do that, and get off to a good start, I have a good feeling about the teams chances, provided we can bring at least one strong player in for the wing, given that it looks like we have secured Beckford and Mucha (fingers crossed).

Had a little tear in my eye today. :D

your right lets sell him(y)

seriously though cahill has his qualities as well'i just hope moyes now realises that we have a squad of decent players and he can rest players like cahill occasionally.

It certainly helps having a more 'creative' footballer behind the front man. Pienaar was constantly moving, making angles for the centre midfielders and creating space.

The balance looked really good, to be fair. Five intelligent, technically gifted footballers just enjoying there football.

You must be gutted. Joke lid.

We don't have to rely on free kicks but sometimes just playing on the ground will not work and we'll need a Cahill special to bail us out. The difference between Chelsea and UTD over Arsenal is that both the top 2 teams can change their style and mix it up from time to time and we have to do that too. Cahill isn't pretty but he's one of the best headers of the ball in all of football.

Wow? So million miles away from the Chelsea away performance? Personally I've seen Everton play better this and lost, but it's all about the nads.

hard to pick with anything today maybe, haven't seen the game until later, but the result speaks for itself.

Created an amazing result today anyway.

I'm not doubting cahill's ability, I just don't think we should build our style and restrict ourselves to crossing just to suit the ability of Cahill and let it be our primary approach.
I agree we should mix it up but when Cahill is playing, for whatever reason, there's little chance it's going to happen.
