Osman v Bilyaletdinov

Baines never really got going today because every time he made a forward run Bily lost the ball and left him out of position. We miss the Baines/Pienaar combination :(

Yeah, I think losing Pienaar was a bigger blow that we think. A lot of our best attacking and creative play came from him and Baines on the left. I think Drenthe is a very similar player to Pienaar though and overall I think he's better. If he and Baines can put together a really solid partnership this season I think it will do us a lot of good.

I think not having Drenthe in the side today definitely hurt us.

Yeah, they'd built up their understand over a couple of years. Drenthe's an absolute loon and a great fella I think, he looks a good player too but he doesn't have the tracking back and positional sense Pienaar had/has. But that can be taught, and as you said I think a Baines/Drenthe partnership could be good. Yeah we did, Bily was useless.

Righto lads we've seen Ossie in his "best position" central, just behind the striker, so leave your marks out of ten here.

I'll go first with:

1/10

I think that's a bit harsh , maybe 4.

Going back to the original line of this thread Bily get's the short stick most of the time from the fans. Take yesterday he may have lost the ball a couple of times but Drenthe does it more but it's just his direct way and he's forgiven.
Baines yesterday made more crap passes but he's forgiven. Cahill places in the position that Bily would like, I'm only guessing, and hasn't scored since I can't remember but he keeps getting the place.
It's just frustrating that the fans are on Bily's back and yesterday as Barkley was warming up you knew that is was Bily that was going to be subbed. Barkley came on couple of little runs, couple of crap passes, crap defensive support for Baines and a lot of long crossfield passes that he seems to like doing but other teams read.
I would like to see Bily given a run of 5 or 6 games playing off the forward and let's see what he can do. But let's get behind the lad either way.

the amount of jip billy gets is laughable, especially when osman offers nothing everyweek. watching osman is like watching a child play against men.

I reckon Moyes has wrecked Bily's confidence, and the crowd getting on his back as well.

A young lad coming from abroad won't ride out the stick like a local, Ossie gets plenty but it's obviously water off a ducks back as he knows there will always be a whipping boy, and by ignoring it he is kind of 'taking it for the team.'

Sadly I think it may have gone too far now with Bily, for him to put in decent shifts and score some blinders when played out of position, and then be dropped by the person who has forked out 9Mill for him can have given him much confidence.
