Green Book was decent but Roma was considerably better and easily the best film of last year imo.

Bohemian Rhapsody being nominated for any award is an absolute joke, it's one giant cheese ridden hamfest from start to finish which purposely went out of its way to avoid the interesting and more dubious aspects of Freddie Mercury's life.

The guy who edited it somehow got nominated for an award as well lol

Best Director feels right for Roma, which was more of a slog to watch but ticked a lot of artsy boxes. I don't think it was necessarily Best Picture worthy, although many of its kind have won.

I'll need to see Green Book. I saw most of the others and to me the one that felt most like a Best Picture with great acting up and down the cast was The Favourite

Weird year this year. None of the films were really universally loved.

Well done Olivia Colman

I can't believe the supporting actor from the "That Mitchell and Webb Sound" show I used to listen to all those years ago is now an Oscar winner

She deserves it, her range is incredible
A mate tipped me Colman to win it.
She was 5/1.

I saw Glenn Close was 1/8 and thought she must have been a certainty so I didn't have a penny on.

Koff.

Which is probably why Green Book won. Probably came second (or even third) on people's votes. I can see The Favourite and Roma coming in at 1 on some people's votes being being left off others all togethr

Then the picks are a karaoke film which sacked the director for sexual assault, a comic book film (which never do well at these things) or Green Book. Green Book has a lot of problems too and a weird take on racism but was probably safer.

The green book was superb. Are you one of them film hipsters?

No, I just find the Green Book being told from a white perspective pretty odd considering the book was there to stop black people getting lynched.

And then there is Nick Vallelonga's tweets supporting Trump.

As I said, I can see why it would win but with this and Bohemian Rhapsody nominated. It's odd how the two 'safest films' were actually the most problematic.
