Exactly. Theres a world of difference in a long pass from Gerry and a 'long pass' from, say, Dave Unsworth.

Conveniently forgetting that for 90 minutes against united we had to watch Jags hoof the ball up to Lukaku as our entire gameplan...

I am happy with the football we are playing this season but watching that was absolutely mortifying

Not forgetting at all. It was Martinez who forgot what should be the golden rule but isn't....'When playing the so called top teams, especially at home, you have more chance of success if you take the game to them.' Generally, however, like you, I'm happy with the play, and the ambition, of Everton this season.

Does Deulofeu's sublime assist of a through ball from the centre circle (for Lukaku at W Ham) count as long ball footie? If so then can we have more of that? It's pure sex.

More to the point scoring so many from open play says great things about the team and its ability to create chances.
The complete absence of a set piece goal shows exactly where we can improve. A few goals from corners and free kicks could have turned our 3 or so draws into wins.

We're good at open play, if we start getting set piece goals we're onto a winner.
