Onyewu signs for AC Milan

Talk about cashing in on a good Tourney performance.

You have to throw out the inept performance at NUFC given that every player who left became quality players after leaving the club (Boumsong, Bramble).

Used to think that the prem wasn't a good fit for him because he couldn't handle guys who ran right at him with pace, he'd litteraly trip over his own two feet. Its still the weakness in his game but he's improved tremendously in this area since 06. If Brum or Wolves would have gotten him it would have been a coup, he's capable of putting a team on his back at times with the club is under siege the way Jags did for Sheff Utd.

He'll start for AC Milan too and be a quality defender in the league. He's trememdous when he could get his feet set and the slow buildup in Serie A will allow him to do that.

looked fine in the Confeds Cup

Probably only a bit part player though at Milan

Scored for Championship relegation strugglers Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend after being sold by QPR without making an appearance.

He wasn't good for QPR either mate.

If we're going to be fair about it. I've watched Onyewu plenty. I know what he's capable of and not capable of. He was never the fastest player but injuries certainly curtailed any potential upside. Unfortunately, at the international level, putting a body on an attacker just isn't good enough. He was beat too often due to lack of anticipation and speed when he couldn't outmuscle an opponent.

Had he not been injured, he could have carved out a steady career in one of the European leagues. Of that, there is no doubt.

On a side note, I often chuckle to myself about American players who those in the UK claim to know more about just because they saw them play once or twice. It's a lot like Evertonians on Twitter who claim that they've got a good handle on Traore because they saw him play for 60 minutes. Amazing really.

Americans simply aren't to be trusted when talking about american players.

We hear again and again about how they're gems and will take europe by storm and then they come to europe and are actually a bit crap.

Speaking of which Freddy Adu is on trial at Blackpool apparently.

Haha...and the Brits are to be trusted?

How condescendingly arrogant of you.

By that logic, you apparently know more about Everton players than I would or football players in world football than I ever would. I can absolutely assure you that isn't the case nor will it ever be.

Because we rate certain American players doesn't mean that we think they'll "take Europe by storm." Those are your words, not any I've seen on here. Dempsey did well here. Donovan did well here. Reyna did well here. Howard, Friedel, Keller, DeMerit, Cameron, Bradley, Holden. ALL did well in Europe. Are you really going to try and argue a point that they didn't?

Yet if I continue to listen to the condescending attitude from people like you without any of my own knowledge, I'd get the impression that every American player who set foot on the shores of Europe was a poor player. That EVERY American that played in Europe was a Cobi Jones, or an Oguchi Onyewu, where it just didn't work out for them. Yes, stereotypes are alive and well in England. All the players I mentioned above? Failures if you were to be believed.

Where you're making a mistake here (embarrassing that I need to tell you this really) is that you and others often confuse Americans rating certain American players with us thinking they're the best players in the world. Where do you get this errant point of view? Certainly not from me or other Americans on here. I can only surmise that your own biases and preconceived notions about American players cloud YOUR views and YOUR ability to judge football ability and talent. If they're American, they must be crap.

You can take those biases and stereotypical views elsewhere mate. Not wanted on here.
