Dodgy dealers Del Boy and Rodney Trotter are to return to British TV screens for the first time in more than 10 years, the BBC has confirmed.

The much-loved south Londoners, played by David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst, will feature in "a short Only Fools and Horses sketch" for this year's Sport Relief in March, it said.

The show, which ran from 1981-2003, was regularly voted Britain's best sitcom.

It was created by writer John Sullivan, who died aged 64 in 2011.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "There are plans afoot for a short Only Fools and Horses sketch for Sport Relief.

"Further details will be announced in the build up to the appeal night on March 21."

Seven series of the programme were made, between 1981-1991, which were followed by a number of Christmas specials.

The 1996 Christmas special Time On Our Hands, in which Del Boy came good on his ambition to turn the Peckham brothers into millionaires, was seen by more than 24 million people.

The new sketch will be the show's first outing since 2003 Christmas special, Sleepless in Peckham.

Rumours going around it could lead to a full new episode next Christmas.

Gods sake it had a great ending when they sold that watch and walked off into the sunset, every Xmas 'special' since then has been dreadful

Hopefully not. It was a fantastic show in its time but these things are best remembered in their prime rather than dragging things on.

Spot on pal. You cant beat the late 80's ones. The further it went on in the 90's it got sh!tter.

the whole dynamic changed as soon as they made the woman recurring characters, although they still managed to get some good laughs out of it and develop the characters a little further, the early ones are much much better

agree they should've walked off into the sunset and not come back though
