On this day - 1966

Wasn't it great when there was no video replays etc, and you just accepted the decisions of the officials. Young's disallowed goal in the first half was in fact onside, but no-one knew at the time and it was therefore a non-issue. Neither was there any debate over the blatant penalty that should have been given in the same half when Springett brought down Young. It didn't matter -- football was just a sport, not something on which big money and commercial/corporate interests were riding. Wonderful, wonderful days.

Haha how brilliantly retro is that video, didn't know that goalkeepers didn't wear gloves then!

Just to digress on the subject of goalies gloves, is there any limit on how big they can be? Some I've seen worn this season must be over twice the size of the keeper's hands!

One of the defining days of my childhood. Brilliant.

BTW: once the youtube has run and the selection of similar vids is shown......I found this:
which is the first time I've relived the famous 1967 fifth round clash since I was there. Had no idea there was any footage at all of that match. An equally precious memory......

Great memories

....remember the iconic commentary with howls of laughter, 'and he's lost his jacket, he's lost his jacket'. Gordon West and Brian Labone telling the booby to go easy with him. I actually have an 33 LP in the loft of with this game and the semi-final on it.

Whenever I think of Alan Ball THAT goal is the goal that comes to mind

First time I've seen it since I was there. Right under the old Goodison Road Stand. The place was absolutely rammed and the noise was deafening. Saturday night under the lights a fantastic atmosphere to rival the Bayern game. What a moment to be a blue.
