ok so today is the day it all begins. 19:32 the plane lands on at RNAS Culdrose, Cornwall (where i work!) i'll be there guiding the press around hoping to cop a look at Alex Jones (oh i would). The flame then is flown by on of our helos (771 Squad) to Lands End to start the relay first thing iin the morning. Not a fan of the Olympics BUT cant help but get a bit excited now its starting. Is the torch lit all the way on the plane? Health & Safety must love that one. Pretty cool that's where you work

Comes right past my flat next week, but I'll be at work I guess. It then gets on the train from my town. Would be nice to see it, I'll set the webcam out the window

Na the flame stays lit inside a lantern type affair, first type a flame has been carried by a helo tho, had to get all kinda clearances for it. LMAO the beckham thing

Ok how does it stay lit for the whole duration
Same way a lantern does, its a gas ganister inside the lantern, they will transfer the flame to the torches when it lands.

Can't be doing with getting all excited about something that is going to further increase the north/south wealth divide. I'll still watch some of the events at home though.

Oh so they just swap torches when the gas is low?

How do they no the gas is getting low?

each runner has their own torch, they just swap the flame, apparently they can keep the torch- as long as they pay £200 for it.

My youngest kids school all turned out to watch, so far so good, but had to get him to school for 6.30am, FFS!
