Player Valuation: Free Transfer
As seen on other forums. Age is quite the topic.

Ashley Williams wrong side of 30. Fonte the same.

But cheaper than the younger players example our stones and lukaku 50 mill + each.

Does it bother you or isn't age as much as an issue these days in modern football.

Depends on our needs if you ask me. Normally don't think it's the best way buying 30+ players. There are of course exceptions to that rule. For me Williams is such an exception. He comes in at a position we defo needed sorting out in. Experienced and proven PL quality. Hope it's the last 30+ player we're looking to bring in this summer though

We need to buy in players that fit the Koeman way. The more experience they have the less "bedding in" there should need to be - this time next year, or January even, we could be more competitive in the transfer market.

pretty sure old mate bobby has invested enough in our 'ones for the future', let big dave do his job with the lads, as for the first team, i think the williams signing was ripper of signing and really 'levelled out' of the mix of young and old... Really want to see a goalkeeper sign with bags of experience, someone whos been around for a while... then a confident young attacker/lw to get out there and express himself in the final third...

In general, I'm typically against signing guys over 30, mostly since the money we spend can never be regained. As such, any transfer fee is basically added to that player's wages to come up with a true cost.

In Ashley Williams case, reports are of a £10 million transfer fee and £4 million per year wages. Let's say we sign him to a 3 year contract. That's £22 million over 3 years. That's the equivalent wages of 141k per week. Is Williams worth 141k per week? In addition, by the 3rd year, he'll be 34 years old and by that time there's a decent possibility he'll be relegated to the bench.

Honestly, if Williams is the only older player we pick up, I can deal with it. He'll definitely improve our team this season. Maybe that makes him worth it but it still feels like a high price to pay.

Based on talent and what they can do.

Look at that 35 year old who outscored everyone else in Europe this season .
