Old Photos Of Where You Live

I remember the Aintree well @Thomasc bottom of Linacre Lane, corner of Litherland Road. The nightclub part around the side was called the Spectrum. Had a few good nights in there!

That’s right mate re The Spectrum.

I remember being in the bath one Friday night and next thing the bouncers were in the bathroom cleaning themselves up after some blokes had come in attacking them with iron bars in the club 😂

Used to get some decent acts there apparently, some who went onto shows like Opportunity Knocks.

Close but Litherland Road is a bit further down and crosses Marsh Lane rather than Aintree Road.
Litherland Road is so long, runs from Merton Road, parallel with Stanley Road/Linacre Road up to Kirk Road, but I think you’re right, was it at the junction of Aintree Road/Fernhill Road? They all seem the same to me down there 🤣

Yep, I was in a band back in the day, played there a few times, it was considered a top venue back then, trying to compete with Allinsons, Wookey Hollow etc to attract big acts.

Here is near where I live - for those that don't know, this is the Albert Embankment looking towards Vauxhall Cross in 1964.

The only buildings that remain are the Rose pub (the building visible behind the back of the bus) and Camelford House (the building in the far distance). Aside from the ornamental lamp-post everything else in this image has gone.

Here is the view looking in the other direction north up Albert Embankment in the late 50s- here, only the old LFB HQ (middle left of the image, the dark building with the lighter band around the base, which they cant sell off), Lambeth Bridge itself and the now derelict bits of St Thomas' Hospital (distant buildings on the far left) remain. The white office blocks on the left were built on the site of the old Royal Doulton factory, which was bombed during the war and stayed up until a few years after I moved down here (they are now ridiculously priced blocks of flats).

….love the walk on Embankment around Westminster, I dare say this is where they do the ‘Lambeth Walk’. Terrific pics, are you from there originally?

No, born in Wrexham moved down here for work and never left.

It is a great walk though and they’ve expanded it so much now - aside from little bits (by Battersea Power Station, the heliport and by Wandsworth Bridge) you can walk from Tower Bridge all along the southern bank to Hampton Court. The City Walls walk is also fantastic on a warm Sunday afternoon.
