THE LETTER IN FULL

Dear Madridismo,

My cycle at Real Madrid has come to an end. Is impossible to capture all I have lived through in a few lines, but I want this letter to communicate what I feel at the moment of parting. In these four years I had the honor to wear this shirt I feel nothing but pride for what I went through and achieved along with my team mates.

Unfortunately today I have to go, but I want to make clear that this was never my desire. As anyone who works, I’ve always wanted to progress. After winning “La Decima” I went to the World Cup with the hope of receiving a new contract, which never came. Many things and many lies were spoken. They always wanted to attribute the initiative to me to leave the club, but did not. The only thing I asked for is something that would be fair. There are many things that I value and many of them have nothing to do with my salary. I hope to progress at Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, where I wish to make history.

I’ve been lucky enough to share a dressing room with fantastic players, who have been even better companions. I think that was the key to La Decima. I want to apologize for the times I was wrong, on or off the pitch. It was never my intention to harm anyone. I sweated for this shirt in every game as if it was my last. There were times when things went for me and others not, but what I can say is that I always gave everything.

I want to thank Spain for everything you gave me and especially for allowing my daughter to be born on this earth. And to the very special people at Montepríncipe hospital, which I will always carry in my heart. My wife, daughter and I will be forever grateful. Also to my colleagues who gave me their support always, in good times and bad, to the various technical bodies that I got to work with and also to all the people who work every day at the club, with which I hope to keep a great relationship.

I hope that Real Madrid have a great season and get this club the achievements they are always looking for. I take forever in my memory that time in the Supercopa when I jumped at the Bernabeu and I received from the fans immense affection. Thank you. I have goose bumps yet cannot think of a better farewell for which unfortunately was my last game.

Hala Madrid! And until forever!

Does seem very steep for a position they don't really need. I mean if he continues to play 3-5-2, will di Maria be the left wing back instead of £30m Luke Shaw? I can't see that, but it seems unlikely he'd play centrally either, so surely the system thus far will be ditched, whilst they still have a yawning hole in their defence, which looks woeful. I mean I thought one of the reasons for going 3 at the back was that with Rafael injured they have no right back.

Really is amazing how quickly it seems to be going wrong for them, even with all the money they have to throw around.

Angel di Maria has written an open letter to Real Madrid fans, claiming he never wanted to leave the Spanish giants.

The winger completed his £60million move to Manchester United on Tuesday, signing a five-year deal with the Old Trafford club.

But he insists he would rather have signed a new contract with the Champions League winners.
Can you blame him, I mean really? From European Champions and Spanish giants to an English PL also rans.

And i understand him!

He just won the Champions League, is an accomplished, world class footballer in his prime. He lived and played for one of, if not the biggest club in the world, he had settled with family and speaks the language.

Now he doesn't get to play Champions League, has to move his family, learn a new language and play for a team who i don't see getting anywhere near Champions League football in the next coming years.

I see him being played centrally behind the striker in LvG's current tactic, really don't see Van Gaal's stubborn behind shafting his 3-5-2.

So that's 60 million £'s for a player, in a position where you already have. Rooney, Mata, Kagawa (who they've completely ruined) and Januzaj, hell even Fellaini can play and boss the ACM-role.

All this, while Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Tyler Blackett (Who i hadn't heard of) are starting. STARTING!

He's in no way a waste of money, but at the same time - IT'S SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY!

That'd be madness though surely? Only last week van Gaal was complaining about the imbalance of his squad. I think he was quoted as saying he had something like 10 players for that #10 role, and very few in other areas. I'm not sure the Argentine lad is the answer to their defensive problems, and can you really see them spending big money between now and the close, having just blown £60m on a Real Madrid reserve that they don't really need?

Short answer: YES

I really believe the entire club, and LvG are in over their head. They're lost without Ferguson.

I see it as a buy to please the fanbase, and the thinking that a great player, makes a great team.

Didn't they do that with Mata though? He was bought despite having Rooney and Kagawa in his best position because he was the only good player they could get. Then they played him out of position, he failed to do much in big games, and United limped to their worst position in a generation.

Wasn't Di Maria used as a central midfielder for Arg and RM? Can see him being used there instead of someone like Cleverly.

Watch them do it all again :) Wouldn't surprise me one. With the added competition from oil- and TV-money, i don't think they know how to deal with a league with so many quality teams.

He played in a deep-laying, middle of the field type playmaker, but didn't really do much defensively. If he played that role, he would probaply be played behind Mata. So then you have two playmakers in a small area. Which just seems weird to me.

Think he's signed him to be his Robben, personally.

Van Gaal isn't actually Jesus, in spite of what the media tried to tell us, and to make his team work anything like the Dutch he'll need a fast-as-heck star player. Di Maria can play comfortably on the right, left, off a striker, even CM. But the only position they really have a hope in is RW (well CM is gash but they need a destroyer type, not a playmaker).

Just seems bizarre to me that in the past 9 months or so they've spent £100m on Mata and Di Maria. Two players who they didn't really need, whilst failing to address their real issues -- CDM/CB etc.

Might be a silly question but does anyone know why British journos pronounce his name like "angle" rather than "an-hell"? Is it a cultural thing I'm not aware of?
