Offensive anthems

They have, but I feel that there’s a momentum to overtly look for offensive material rather than tackle the true issues at hand or what’s truly offensive.

Was Swing Low written to support or praise slavery or racial inequalities? Does it do that now? If you read the history, it’s difficult to argue it does.

Should the English be offended by O Flower of Scotland? I’d say not.
I think if you could bring these slave owners back to life and show them what they were involved in and how we’ve come this far, I think the vast majority would be horrified by their actions or inactions.

Anyone know the origins of YMCA?

YMCA was founded by George Williams and 11 friends.[2] George Williams was a London draper, who was typical of the young men drawn to the cities by the Industrial Revolution.

They were concerned about the lack of healthy activities for young men in major cities; the options available were usually taverns and brothels. Williams' idea grew out of meetings he held for prayer and Bible-reading among his fellow workers in a business in the city of London,[3] and on 6 June 1844, he held the first meeting that led to the founding of YMCA with the purpose of "the improving of the spiritual condition of young men engaged in the drapery, embroidery, and other trades."[4] Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury served as YMCA's first president from 1851 until his death in 1885.[5]

Ah. Same score. That’s what made me think of it. The 79 game was a Euro qualifier & from memory the RoI were in the same group.

I was at the Northern Ireland v Republic of Ireland game at Windsor Park, it was brutal. I stopped going after that, things have improved greatly since those days but I only go occasionally now.
I remember being at a game against Wales, it was a bit of a struggle for both sides with Wales passing sideways and backwards, the NI fans started chanting "Are you England in disguise" the few Welsh fans that were there replied with "Are you Ireland in disguise" one of the greatest retorts I have ever heard.
