I'm assuming he'd have to be sold or "luquidated" to pay off some debts.
I'd pay as much as 3M for him as I think he's quality. He's a CF with talent. Big CFs always take the longest to develop. They usually hit their prime around 30 and there's not that many miles on his body either. Plus Strikers are the most expensive players in football (Despite being an abject failure we got 4M?! for Beattie and made a profit on a most likely washed up AJ. A PROFIT???!! Thanks Woy). There is no reason to think that he couldn't do what Zamora was doing at Fulham before his leg was shattered if you put him on a stable club and give him service like we could do at Everton. At the very worst he'd be a force in the box on free kicks and our corners would no longer be a waste of everybody's time.
Haven't we learned anything on this board about dismissing players with obvious talent becuase they couldn't cut it at other clubs? Signing players with talent like Nugent who for whatever reason didn't fit in at their respective clubs and making them good is what we do best here. Its the players who are "good enough" that we pay 6M+ for that have been hit or miss with us.
Portsmouth has been in meltdown for 2 years now and before that 'Arry didn't give him a chance. Arry has been known to favor vets (ask Naughton) and its not like Arry is a great judge of talent either as he still lets Pavlechenko rot on the bench. It probably didn't help being the only 22 year old on a team of senior citizens either. Burnley was for the majority of his time there a mess after Coyle fled and yet still he had some good performances there. Neither was an environment that would seem bring the best out of people.
