Not very impressed

Agreed. There are some fans (and probably Vic himself) who just see a goal and nothing else and that means he did well. In some teams that would be enough but the way we play we need more from that position. That said, lazy + scoring is a hell of a lot better than lazy + not scoring. So credit to him there he's found his touch around goal. Plus the celebration was better. He still doesn't get it though which is a shame.

I've never been a Neville hater (quite the opposite actually) but he did not play well. I think we need Fellaini up front but until Gibson is back he may have to drop back. Nevs should probably be on the bench as Hibbo is playing quite well. It's a shame as he does organize the team well and he's done a great job for us over the years.

Officials are just depressing. Why isn't there a "if it's 50/50 it's a goal" rule -- it seems to be the opposite ... they need to be 100% sure it WAS a goal before giving a goal. This isn't the death penalty ... it's goals. People like goals. They make DVDs of just goals. Sometimes the decision might go against us but I'd feel a lot better about the game if they had to be sure it WASN'T a goal.

The second made sense because perhaps the linesman wasn't sure and so can't say it is a goal, just rather, I don't know.

But he raised his flag for the first. That means he thought it was offside. He was sure enough to rule out a goal.

How? It was onside. And though it was tight the pass was from inches away so he barely had to adjust his vision. Poor stuff.

Now I know why Moyes is so desperate to strengthen CM, Neville can't play 90 in there any more & away from home, when we'll come under more pressure, I think he'll be found out, if we persist with him.

Reminds me of the comedy programme SLEDGE HAMMER - the police chief says: 'Do you have any leads on the murders Inspector Hammer?' - 'No, but after a few more victims we might have more to go on.' ;)

Totally let down by the linesman.

But in what universe are a combo of Osman and Neville a premier league central midfield pairing?

I don't mind osman behind the forward, but everywhere else he's useless. Neville is finished (I thought this had been seen by moyes last season?)

I wonder what the stats are when Anichebe comes on as opposed to when hes not on -- he does nothing ALL game and yet when he does score goals acts as if hes player of the season. Credit for scoring but just standing around like a lump the rest of the time doesnt cut it for me,

Heitinga should be in the side, if i was him id have put in a transfer request to be honest.

Fellaini and Mirallas pure class.

EDIT -- oh and yes we should have won last night - BUT im talking about the players not just one game !

Hear, Hear, could'nt agree more, well said

I'm gonna totally agree with Zatara about Anichebe I'm actually worried to say! lol

I thought we looked such a poorer team with him leading the line, Moyes even sacked him off to Right Mid cos' he's was utterly shocking. Poor touch, poor distribution and you all must have see him get put through and just stumble towards the corner flag letting the defender, who was incidentally about 5+yards away, get a few yards in front. He's actually pretty quick but his touch and ability just showed him up. Won nothing in the air, struggled to bring anyone into the game and yeah Mirallas seemed to struggle playing off him. When Jelavic was on, Mirallas was having a field day playing off him, this totally nullified with Victor there.

That is ignoring scoring those goals, he has a good shot and turns well. Then again, do we sacrifice our whole playing style and the effectiveness of other players to fit in someone who might nick a goal but drags us down? Not for me thanks, when he stops scoring we'll all be back on here saying how poor he is. Simples.

I don't think anyone's saying he should be our new number one striker mate. It's not even a contest -- we are a better team with Jela and the boss slotter is a far better player.

But there were a lot of pants performances out there for us yesterday, from officials and our own players. Vic scored 2 goals in 45 minutes though and really I don't think he deserves to be getting stick after last night. As someone else said, if Jelavic had done nothing but score twice we'd be fapping over him.

I'm not too sure about that, I think we'd have done better putting Naismith on and having him, Mirallas and Felli switching. I think one issue we struggled is Victor wasn't holding or distributing the ball so it was getting pumped straight back towards their strikers. We held the ball more in the first half and they couldn't touch us, there wasn't an issue with Neville cos' he was only needed as a link in the chain. As soon as we're losing the ball and chasing he was all over the shop, it was embarrasing. I'm not thinking everyone wants him as our main striker I just don't like the way we play with him on the pitch!

After Rodwell left I said we needed a central midfielder and was questioned by quite a few. I don't think anything has changed in that regard. It's nice to have a few guys who can play multiple positions, but we are still struggling for numbers regardless.

As far as Anichebe goes, his effort was inconsistent. One minute he's closing down defenders and Harper, the next minute he's banished to the wing because he's lazy. Should have had two goals though, and the goal that counted was a beautiful goal, something we should expect from him more often.

What's really good is that we played some excellent football, scored a couple of goals, had a couple of goals not given, saw a great game of football yet still we can moan and demand more. That's what I like to see.........

Osman and Neville both need bombing out, it not only there lack of quaity certainly in Nevilles case but their lack of legs the both look dead in the cm role after the hour mark, against swansea Id go with

heitinga felli

mirallas naismith pienaar

jelavic

Stats from last night...

#EFC 2 #NUFC 2 FT Possession%: 58.2-41.8 | Passes: 404-291 | Accuracy%: 80-74 | Final 3rd Passes: 163-94 | Shots: 17-11 | On Target: 6-3

Wouldnt say ****e at all. Think a few individual decisions let us down in the final third last night and 2 defensive errors helped Newcastle and of course the ridiculous linesman.

Forget last night....

Osman is a poor mans Joe Allen (someone had to say it)
Neville is finished
Anichebe comes not to play

when Anichebe scores we don't lose, give him a break and get behind him! He isn't the best, but to boo him is unfair, or to judge him before he gets on the pitch is wrong!! If Miralles/Jelavic had scored that goal last night we'd all probably have had been raving about it for the rest of the season! Fans talk about Moyes having favourites, some people like you do aswell!!!!!!!

It's not about having favourites....

Its about seeing BIG VIC come onto the pitch and have my heart sink. Just like it used to when I saw Hibbert+Osman on the tright hand side.

osman & hibbert

i agree with your assessment of hibbert and osman and wonder why moyes persists with them, did you see osmans shot on goal from inside the 18 yard box that almost went out for a throw in, hibbert cannot and will never be able to beat a man and cross the ball successfully, some nutters are talking about osman being selected for the england team i can honestly say the england team is p**s poor but to play osman would be an embarrassment to everton, why didn't moyes play naismith and mirrales and put osman on the bench as osman as absolute no vision to be able to pass that killers pass and his shooting is a disgrace, he was responsible for newcastles second goal when he chicken out of a tackle, why as moyes not looked to buy a decent right back who can get up field and help out in attack instead of hibbert who constantly passes the ball back or out of play, when gibson is fit i would put coleman at right back with naismith in front of him to link up, that way we could have a threat both on the left with pienaar and baines and on the right with coleman and naismith, i think fellini will be gone in january so link mirrales to play alongside jelavic, in last nights game our central defenders where out muscled and bringing osman back for corners is insane what does moyes want him to do run through the legs of the attacking players.
