Not another Arteta and Spain thread..

From what I've read that he was in contention for the England friendly but Spain's manager Bosque said there was no point because Fabregas would take his place when he was back from injury.

Yes, if he was playing in Spain or for the RS (or any other top 4 team) he'd get a shot at the national team. He is one of the best midfielders in one, if not the, toughest leagues in the world so he does have the quality to be tested on an international level.

But with Inesta, Xavi, Fabregas, Alonso, Busquets, Silva making the bulk of the midfield, and them being a mixture of youth and older players (Alonso and Xavi being two over 25), its going to be hard for Arteta.

I dont think he'll ever get the 1 cap. But if he did get a cap he'd be a squad utility player for Spain - someone who can play anywhere across the midfield - rather than be a regular.

He would shine in La Liga IMO.

Busquets is nothing special. He will never take Silvas place different positions really.

Fabregas and Iniesta are his main counterparts/competition for a place as they are similar players.

I would be devasted to see him leave as he is a quality player but i would love it to see him play regular for Spain. No doubt he will head back to Spain to play for one of their big 4.

I find it very hard to disagree with this statement.

Lets hope we are both very, very, wrong.

Would not suprise me either to see him leave. It all depends on how he comes back from his injury. If he's the same player he was prior to getting injured, then he'll be off to play in the Spanish league. If not, then he'll most likely stay where he is.
