Non-football things to do on my first trip to Merseyside

Day out on Formby beach, but do watch out for ninjas wearing north face jackets and wielding samurai swords.

Also take a stroll round the red squirrel reserve but don’t be too disappointed if you don’t see any as they’ve all been captured by the ninjas and sold to restaurants in China town to make soup.

As somewhat an amateur ninja myself, do they allow visitors to join them on squirrel hunts? If so, how can I get access to an extra sword? I'd bring my own, but I have a bad record with checked baggage getting lost at Heathrow.

Just get a taxi to Norris Green and ask the first lid you meet that you’re looking for a weapon, I’m sure they’ll sort you out.

Hey all,

After about 4 years of supporting Everton from afar (Chicago), I think I might be making my first trip to Goodison for the Arsenal game on Feb 4 (still finalizing a work trip to Europe). I made a short list of things to do/see unrelated to football and wanted to hear some thoughts. Mostly I want to know whether some of these are obvious tourist traps I should avoid, or vice-versa (things I didn't list but I should definitely see). Also if you have any generally commentary/feedback, I'd like to hear it.

Things I really want to do
  • Sefton Park
  • Beatles Story / Beatles Magical Mystery Tour / Liverpool Beatles Museum (are all these worth doing or are some better than others?)
  • Western Approaches (is this a kids museum or would an adult find it interesting?)
  • Museum of Liverpool
  • Runway Visitor Park in Manchester (I was obsessed with the Concorde as a child)

Things that sound somewhat interesting but I might skip for this round
  • Liverpool sign
  • Liver Building
  • Liverpool Cathedral
  • Mersey Tunnel Tour

Not interested but I could be convinced otherwise
  • World Museum
  • British Music Experience
  • Royal Albert Dock
  • Strawberry Field

Finally, in relation to gameday, are there things I should definitely do? How early would one need to get to the Winslow Hotel to have a beer there on game day?
Other things to consider:

- Walking tour of the city
- Pub crawl
