The BBC is boss.

Sky, the cheeky **** not only charge you a subscription but they ALSO put adverts on. The worst of both worlds!

Agree with Chang there - would be better if the BBc charged a bit more so THEY could get the rights to football and blow Sky out the water.

But given I need to watch Prem football, why am I forced to fund the profits for Murdoch and fellow shareholders. Surely the licence fee should be increased just a little so that the BBC can secure the football rights at cost price, cutting out the profit element ?

What a good idea.

Not only are you enriching Murdoch et al, due to the collective way money is distributed, you're also filling the pockets of players like Gerrard and Suarez.

It might be a small point, but I believe if you watch live tv it doesn't matter if you don't do it via a television, or if you're not watching BBC, you still need a license.

Quite right Bruce, as that link states : You need a TV licence if you watch or record live tv as its being broadcast. Catch up and on demand services, you don't need a licence.

I believe that in regards to the BBC and the Tv licence, the government decree that in order to legally watch or record live tv you need a licence (as you do for several other things). Once they recieve the money from that licence they just give it all to the BBC, rather than spread it around other channels.

So regardless of whether you watch BBC or not, you still need to pay for a licence to watch tv, if they spread it around to other channels, or other things completly someone would still complain that their tax money was funding something they didn't like.

It wasn't too bad an idea back in the day but these days its pretty daft considering the amount of channels and different ways of watching programs, they'd be better off getting rid of the tv licence and making everything subscription (like Sky) and just adding taz to the subscription costs.

Whether you decide to use a TV or not, as long as you contribute tax in one way or another, you're funding the BBC whether you like it or not.

Even I don't pay tax I'll be funding the bbc because I'll be putting money into businesses that pay the wages of people with tv licences.
