is this driving anyone else a bit mad?? i dont want to sound overly cynical and obviously cancer is a terrible thing to go thorugh

however

1- Do we really need to raise awareness of cancer? Im pretty sure most people are aware of it and there are LOADS more illness, conditions etc that could genuinely benefit from raising awareness
2- Its all a bit ’look at me’ like bl00dy movember
3- Why cant it be women naked pictures instead? That would be much better

I wonder how many "selfies" most of these twonks actually take before they get one they're happy enough to share.

It's like when someone comes and asks you for sponsorship because they're going to do something they want to do and find fun and would have done anyway.

Its silly.

What has started out as a good idea has fell flat on its face because loads of people are doing it and not donating to the cause and then you get sad people who like to point out their text message that proves they have donated.

I second BOS's for facebook though. proper boss idea that

My friend died at the age of 14 from Cancer. What he went through as a teenager was the most horrific thing I have ever seen. He was an only child too.

I have also lost relatives to this illness.

I do not need pictures of peoples faces sans makeup to try and press home how horrendous this disease is. BUT
The only positive I can think of is if it makes the younger audience join in and check for symptoms. As kids you feel invincible, yet you are just as vulnerable. My friend had a lump for months before he got it checked :(

I've got a friend dying of breast cancer at the moment. If it just gets a few women to check their tits it's worth it. It's all my missus and her mates seemed to be talking about yesterday so it's worked as far as I can see. A quick sweep of the news on the internet will show you it's been a big success and has raised a decent load of money. Pretty horribly cynical to say otherwise I think.

I'm not finding it boring, rather hilarious for me actually. All these birds back from the school days on my timeline who say 'no makeup selfie xxx' yet leave their fake lashes and scousebrow on. And then add a filter. You're not deceiving anyone love...

Ghost and I discussed this yesterday. There has been a fair bit of research into this kind of thing. The basic gist of it is that the more public the display of 'support' for a charity, the less likely that person will follow up with anything more meaningful, ie a donation of their time or money.

There was a follow up that looked at a Facebook thing to help with the tragedy in Darfur. Of over 1 million people that liked that campaign page, a whopping 99.74% did nothing else apart from like that page. The response rate on FB was quite a bit less than it was for more traditional fundraisers such as mailshots etc.

It's a bit like that Kony bloke whose video was seen by goodness knows how many people. He's still at large. There is still mass religious genocide going on in Africa at the moment. Bugger all has changed.
