No Cutting Edge

I'm surprised by how lively Yak has looked in recent games. He seems really hungry for the ball and to want to make an impression. Saha, on the otherhand, appears to really have gone off the boil lately.

When the two have been on the pitch together, they seem to be playing their own game, rather than linking up together. I think it will be one or the other, with a different type of player alongside them, once we bring someone in. Carlton Cole is someone who I thought might be worth a punt. He's 26, so the right age, he has power, pace and aerial ability. Plus, a 1 in 4 strike rate for a struggling side is not to be sniffed at. Ok, he's no Rooney or Drogba, but he's no worse than Bent and he's certainly capable of being in the league's top 10 goalscorers on a regular basis. With West Ham being broke, we might be able to nick him for a bargain price.

I think Cahill's kept his place because of his defensive contribution to the midfield. We'd effectively be a man light if we played Bily in the hole. Credit to him though for his goalscoring exploits this season. It seems that Pienaar prefers to cut in from the left, otherwise we'd be seeing more of the Russian on his favoured flank.
