Theres a programme on Monday night 10:35 on itv called The fight of there lives.
This was one of the most all out war of boxing ive seen. It would have gone down as one of the best fights ever had it not been for the tragic ending which left Gerald McClellan fighting for his life in my opinion.
Im not meaning to sound morbid or sick but this will be a interesting watch for all boxing fans, this fight has never been shown since due to the outcome.

The chap who made the documentary was on radio talking about it. Very passionate and thoroughly did his research by the sound of it.

I never got the impression this was meant to scaremonger or blame anyone, but rather to tell the full story of what happened that night and the fallout afterwards which had Nigel Benn contemplating taking his own life.

Should be a good watch.

I recently watched something similar but with michael watson , who of course sadly ended up severely brain damaged after his fight with chris eubank,,,very moving .

There have been a couple of docu's made in the US about McClellan, you can find parts of them on youtube if you are interested.

He did what he loved, and he never complained about it in any sense. No one put a gun to his head and made him take up the sport, yes it is sad that people get injured, and sometimes so badly injured as to be paralysed or worse. More people die in automotive accidents in one year than in the history of every modern sport cummulatively.
Boxing is probably the most respected sport in the world and has created some of the most endearing and enduring legacies known in sport.
In part due to the Watson and McLellan injuries boxing became much safer in this country. I would never say the ends justifies the means but we ought to be glad for small mercies.

I believe Barry McGuigan was involved with a boxing fatality.
I won't stop appreciating F1 because Senna and Ratzenberger died pursuing the sport they adored. (And motor racing has a far nastier and more calous history compared to boxing).

Was watching a preview show last week about this and had forgotten about it , cheers for the post , will be a tough watch no doubt .

Sticking to the sport , its dangerous enough without cheats like Margarito putting plaster of paris in their gloves , nice to see him get his just rewards last night .

I own one of the last pieces of memorobilia McClellan ever signed.
Possibly the greatest night and most saddest night in British Boxing history. The aftermath - specifically how Gerald was left to fend for himself by Don (a miniature Mike Tyson) King is one of the most maleovalent chapters in all of sporting history.

Love Boxing, Hate the politics.

I don't know much about boxing really but this has me intrigued.

Am I right in thinking that the lady in the advert (maybe McClellan's wife?) is a little wrong in talking about Benn, and saying 'how can another man live when he's nearly killed someone in the ring?' (or words to that effect).
Could it not just as easily have gone the other way, and Benn been injured by McClellan?

Like i say i don't know much about boxing but it's 50/50 isn't it?

It is McClellans sister, he has two, and one of them wished Nigel Dead in awful circumstances.
Tha a piece of Nigel Died in that fight seems to have evaded a great number of people.

How on earth was that Stan Johnson( McClellens coach) ever allowed near a boxing gym again i will never know as for Don King he is an evil specimen!
I love boxing but i hate the corruption!

Three parts immediately spring to mind.

Bruno, Legend! - "Mickey Mouse and Batman" !!!
McClellan - "Does he look sad"
Benn - "I never took anabolic steroids whilst I was boxing"

We all love Frank.
McClellan is a shell, and the dedication of his family is a difficlut road they have gone down with great dignity and commitment.
Nigel - apart from admitting about a spliff and ecstasy, I'd like him to have said he has never and would never use any steroids ever.
Also, Geralds trainer is a collosal coc l< nose!

Wanted to post the above after I had watched it, but we were all banned for about 20 hours from posting.

Having rewatched it to make sure, there was a very telling part shown in McClellans camp where he was training, I was amazed to see 'that' blink, that was supposedly a sign of brain trauma was evident weeks before the bout.
Can't say i'm over the moon about Benn becoming a 'born again' but as it seems to have helped him through a very difficult spell then more power to him.
Feel so sorry for Gerald, I realise he was a very nasty man but he didn't deserve what happened and a part of me thinks that sometimes he might think he might have been better off if he hadn't had the surgery.

Also, Don King is a vulture, an utterly despicable man with no morals and no soul.
