Why do people hate them? They're bog-standard average to me, yet people hate them with a passion.

Is it that lead singers bad haircut or something?

Few reasons

1. They make ultra generic and bland rock music to the point where tons of their songs use the exact same chord progressions and song structures. Lots of bands are guilty of this but Nickleback are probably the most famous and obvious abusers of it. The same rhythm, key & chord change are used over and over.
2. People who don't even notice the above just jump on the bandwagon and hate because everyone else does
3. They are genuinely terrible




The Chainsmokers are the new Nickleback anyway, only for EDM. Proper lowest common denominator music which relies on identical chord phrasing/structures for every track. I think they have now overtaken Nickleback as the most mocked group on the planet.

Yeh I have similar feelings about foo fighters music but they are slightly more ambitious than nickleback and superior musicians as well. Ultra bland music though.
