Contraception does fail, but how often? How many of those 60,000 abortions I spoke of would've been performed if the couples had used some form of birth control.

I'm holding my 4 month old granddaughter - who was born 6 weeks prem' - in my left arm as I type this with one finger of my right hand and just the thought of late term abortion appals and saddens me.

using your own grand daughter as an example to argue against abortion is a complete joke

I'm not using my granddaughter for anything.

I admit that I've gone off topic but knowhatImeans's earlier post brought to mind the often horrible and avoidable consequence of unwanted pregnancy.

And there is absolutely nothing to joke about in any of this.

Yes, as have most people in this thread - albeit led astray by one or two people wilfully changing the subject from the disgusting attitude of Tory MP David Davies to one of contraception.

There are primarliy two things wrong with his comments,

1. their medieval nature. Enchainment, forced labour - these are the politcal solutions of despots and tyrants. The suggestion betrays his despicable, underlying contempt for people not of his ilk. This contempt will infuse his whole disposition on all matters and colour every vote he makes in parliament.

2. the lack of respect shown to the parliamentary process (and thereby the nation) in making such an innappropriate and irrelevant contribution to a serious debate on a Tory policy which is having a massive human cost.

His kind of comments are a slippery slope and should not be tolerated. He should step down.
