Decent price that. Don't have a Lidl near us unfortunately. Tesco price is around £2.75 for 1kg. Not that bad, but pricier than porridge, which is just the ticket on a cold morning.

Both 95p/500g in Sainsburys. Both £1.00/500g in Asda, although Asda has some non-wholemeal on offer at 50p in fairness to you.

Buy frozen fruit and make smoothies. This has been a bloody revelation to me haha. Such a cheap way of eating berries.

Try some frozen fruit with porridge. Mix in a square of dark chocolate. Magic.

It is also the only thing that people who dont do is preach to those do do, not to.

If you see what I mean. WTF has it got to do with anyone else except me??

I'm not preaching Roydo, I'm on your side ( of the argument ) is that I can't see the legitimacy of these adverts whilst taxing those who smoke, that's all.

It's very insincere - maybe I'm just a bit sensitive, my nan died in Marie Curie after various forms of cancer riddled her (not to darken the discussion sorry, but it highlights my sensitivity ) I take your point though about paying for your potential care.

I agree with it, tbh. But then, I don't have smokers in my family so I don't know the effects of such things. I agree with what helps to discourage people because smoking is a terrible thing and it's not people's fault they get addicted. But as I said, I only have the view I know of because I don't see the other side of it.

I was a smoker for 20 years... Weighed 12 and a half stone.... Stopped 5 years ago ..... Weigh almost 16 stone now ffs....

Nah seriously though.... If every single person in the country who smoked all stopped tomorrow how would the economy survive with the loss of tax taken ?

Some things are definitely more expensive though.

Brown pasta is twice as much as regular pasta, for example.

A packet of blackberries/raspberries/blueberries the size of a large pack of crisps is £2. So I never buy them.

A pack of two corn on the cob is £2, which is a disgrace.

For cheap veg go to Aldi or Lidl, it's so much cheaper than Asda for certain things. Buy a full chicken for £3/£4 and you'll get a good couple of meals out of it and a few sandwiches. Does get a bit boring though.

As a low carb practitioner, I can tell you that feeding myself doesn't come cheap. Meat is bloody expensive these days, as is fish, and most other things that aren't packed full of unhealthy cheap mass-produced carb.

Veg is pretty expensive now too. stuff like peppers, mushrooms, spring onions, aubergines, courgettes.. have all risen much faster than inflation.

The Government needs to stop playing mummy all the time, I could solve this problem of "costs" to the NHS in one day in Parliament- make people who require medical treatment from alcohol/smoking or drugs pay for their own treatment, their sorted FFS this Government makes more problems than it solves

I hear you brother - my weekly meat bill is alarming...I've started to rustle local sheep now to satisfy my high protein diet.

As for the veg - I simply raid my local allotment

But could you then argue that cigs and booze should be much cheaper then ?? As it stands I believe It costs less than a pound to make twenty cigs yet they cost about 8 quid a pack....that is purely down to taxation.

Any good self respecting smoker doesn't even contribute to the NHS because they go on holiday to somewhere that sells cheap bifters and fill there suitcase up before leaving with a years supply. Thus getting a free holiday and never paying tax on the biffs.

Can you blame them? I certainly don't.If they're getting ripped off, which they are, then they are going to look for alternative ways of getting them.

I have no problem with the NHS using Adverts like this either.

Yeah I usually go to Aldi but whatever I can't get from there I get from Asda. I suppose that's alright in comparison.

Good shout that on the smoothies, I might try it out!

I love porridge with a bit of jam mixed in. It has to be the chunky stuff though, the finer stuff is like gruel.

I try not to spend more than £30 a week on food, that usually covers it but I find myself dithering over buying meat sometimes. I don't usually buy fish, as you say it is expensive, so if I do get some it's usually pretty bland stuff.

I might just go back to eating pizzas every day
