I was just reading in tonight's Echo about Liverpool's youngsters playing in the Champions League style tournament and I was wandering if Everton had showed an interest in playing in it or do you have to qualify for it?

I just think it would be good for the young lads to play against European opposition, what are everyone's thoughts on this?

I don't think our kids are that bad,....Or are they?

They're not bad, I just think the other teams are a lot better. Watched Spurs and Barcelona about a month ago and there seemed to be some real quality on show; quality that I don't think we have.

Next-Gen is invite-only. It's a bone of contention with many within Everton, although they won't say so publicly. Participation appears to be based on 'reputation' and is a 'closed shop'. It's certainly not based on 'the best teams being involved'.

And why would we 'get battered'? Our youngsters are on-a-par, if not better than Liverpool's youngsters.

It's only 18 months ago that Everton U-18s were the National FA Premier Academy League Champions, better than Utd, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc.

That get battered comment was a bit of a throwaway one to be honest but as I said im not sure of the quality of our lads are but the quality in this tournament is very high.

There's a game on Eurosport at the moment - juve v man city - its raining cats and dogs, watch it, it's ******* hilarious
