Next Year....Next Year....Next Year....

Player Valuation: £100m
It ALWAYS seems that we Evertonians are always saying 'Next Year' or 'Next Season'.

Theres always been a couple of positions in the past where the majority have been thinking collectively "If only we had a top player in X and Y position, then we'd challenge the Top 4"....

For God knows how long we've been screaming out for a new right side, a few seasons ago we were crying out for a new central midfield and until January we have been begging for a forward to slot away chances for us....

The one key issue for us is MONEY....apparently. Well I disagree. YES it would make things alot easier with a new owner and a nice 'warchest' for Moyes, however he does have the money to strengthen through WAGES and structured personal fees at the very least.

My question is, knowing that Rodallega,Hoilett and Clyne were free agents this summer (plus small development fees for two of them), why has Moyes not done a 'Beckford' and agreed terms with them before their contracts elapsed ? Also, looking at Pranjic -- why did we not agree a July deal with him back in January when his Bayern transfer fell through?

Hoilett and Clyne could be the new right side wé've been looking for, for almost a decade.
Rodallega and Pranjic could have been the cover we have lacked for the past 5 seasons.
Donovan would add the wide pace we've lacked since Kanchelskis.

Fair play to snap up Naismith quickly BUT I'm amazed that we (and other teams) haven't pre-planned these free agent deals. Once we add Pienaar into the squad we will STILL be short 3 players minimum.

How I wish Moyes could pull a rabbit out of the hat and land future superstars like; Clyne/Hoilett and Castaignos.....surely that's not too much to ask in the days of structured payments + salaries covering signing on fees ? With our business model we need to be making these longer term signings rather than throwing money down the toilet on wages for Hahnemanns and McFaddens.

Even if we did land these 3 players permanently on top of Naismith + Pienaar and ideally Donovan to follow I would still be saying 'Next Year'......Why not 'This Year' ? Anichebe/Yobo/ Cahill out could easily fund this.....

Garbutt--Clyne--Duffy
Lundstram--Fellaini--Barkley--Rodwell--Hoilett
Vellios--Castaignos

Add those younger players to older top players such as;

Howard--Heitinga--Jagielka--Baines--Gibson--Pienaar--Naismith--Donovan--Jelavic

With some fillers, that has the makings of a fantastic squad, 'NEXT YEAR' but only if we do good business 'THIS YEAR'.

You want Donovan for pace? Rodafella wanted 70k a week, Pranjic has only used us to orchestrate a move somewhere else. Why do we need to do pre-deals to the deals? We are everton if they want to come they will.

Is Donovan suddenly slow ? Must have missed something there ?

Rodallega may well have wanted 70k a week -- why was this not established BEFORE the transfer window opened ??

Pranjic was ready to sign in January....Bayern pulled the plug. Suddenly common sense would have been to sign a pre-contract agreement with him at that time ?

I'm pretty sure it the Kopites who say this and not us mate.

That's true in a sense, but we always look at our first eleven and hope for 2 or more positions to be filled with quality....start of last season it was a forward -- we got Jelavic....but for years it's been a new right side...etc etc

I know what you mean mate. It's actually a decent post.

Wasn't it two years ago we definately had a Champions League team? Even i was convinced. Then we lost to Blackburn on day 1.

Ah Everton.

Donovan is almost 30, is pace isn't going to last forever; maybe a season or 2
Rodellga has seen his opportunity to get a pay day, most free agents do considering they don't command a trasnfer fee; if Fulham are prepared to pay then good luck to them.
Pranjic was about to sign, but football changes. He may now not fit into the managers plans.

Regarding Rodallega and Pranjic -- It just seems odd that these deals werent discussed some time ago....its almost like we've realised they are now free agents....

Donovan -- more of a bonus addition if you read the way I added him into the equation....Hoilett would be the one I really want for that role because he is still young....however for 2 seasons Donovan could do a good job for us as well whilst the youngsters are being bedded into the squad.

Football changes mate, what Moyes wanted in January might not be what he wants now. I agree I would like Hoilett more than more, he has the pace; can look a little out of his depth at times, but would be a good signing.

I think there's two reasons why this type of thing doesn't happen with us.

The first is that a player who is on the verge of a free transfer will not want to commit himself before seeing whats out there for them. Imagine if Hugo had signed with us in Jan at £35k p.w. He'd have done himself out of dough. There's no way his agent would allow that to happen and as Chris said a lot can change in football in a short space of time.

The second that applies to us is we cannot afford to have an excess on our wage bill even for a season. We need to let Yobo, Vic and a few others go before we commit ourselves to paying someone 40/50k p.w. If we brought in Hoilett and Hugo on a combined £110k p.w and we didn't manage to move the other two on thats £10m a season on our wage bill. We can't do that anymore and everyone knows it.

IMO it's why we never go Demba Ba last year, as the Yak couldn't be moved, literally.

Drenthe, Straq, Hannemann, McFadden and Pienaar are off the books...

So we have 4 players wages there (I guess Pienaars salary would remain the same on the wage bill).....and Naismith in,

Surely theres room to manouvre.
