It ALWAYS seems that we Evertonians are always saying 'Next Year' or 'Next Season'.
Theres always been a couple of positions in the past where the majority have been thinking collectively "If only we had a top player in X and Y position, then we'd challenge the Top 4"....
For God knows how long we've been screaming out for a new right side, a few seasons ago we were crying out for a new central midfield and until January we have been begging for a forward to slot away chances for us....
The one key issue for us is MONEY....apparently. Well I disagree. YES it would make things alot easier with a new owner and a nice 'warchest' for Moyes, however he does have the money to strengthen through WAGES and structured personal fees at the very least.
My question is, knowing that Rodallega,Hoilett and Clyne were free agents this summer (plus small development fees for two of them), why has Moyes not done a 'Beckford' and agreed terms with them before their contracts elapsed ? Also, looking at Pranjic -- why did we not agree a July deal with him back in January when his Bayern transfer fell through?
Hoilett and Clyne could be the new right side wé've been looking for, for almost a decade.
Rodallega and Pranjic could have been the cover we have lacked for the past 5 seasons.
Donovan would add the wide pace we've lacked since Kanchelskis.
Fair play to snap up Naismith quickly BUT I'm amazed that we (and other teams) haven't pre-planned these free agent deals. Once we add Pienaar into the squad we will STILL be short 3 players minimum.
How I wish Moyes could pull a rabbit out of the hat and land future superstars like; Clyne/Hoilett and Castaignos.....surely that's not too much to ask in the days of structured payments + salaries covering signing on fees ? With our business model we need to be making these longer term signings rather than throwing money down the toilet on wages for Hahnemanns and McFaddens.
Even if we did land these 3 players permanently on top of Naismith + Pienaar and ideally Donovan to follow I would still be saying 'Next Year'......Why not 'This Year' ? Anichebe/Yobo/ Cahill out could easily fund this.....
Garbutt--Clyne--Duffy
Lundstram--Fellaini--Barkley--Rodwell--Hoilett
Vellios--Castaignos
Add those younger players to older top players such as;
Howard--Heitinga--Jagielka--Baines--Gibson--Pienaar--Naismith--Donovan--Jelavic
With some fillers, that has the makings of a fantastic squad, 'NEXT YEAR' but only if we do good business 'THIS YEAR'.
