Coleman seems the obvious option to me. Williams is new to Everton and shouldn't be starting for us long term (a couple years at most, I'd hope).

Only problem with giving it to Coleman would be if we want to give it to Ross/Rom/someone else in a couple of years it would be more politically difficult.

Coleman regular captain with Baines as vice captain when Coleman not available.
Williams as back up to both.

He's been a very good player for us but in my opinion not the best captain. He doesn't quite have the conviction or resilient mentality needed for a captain of a top team. I think out of the current squad I'd prefer to see Williams as the new captain. No point giving it to Barry as he will surely get less game time now Schneiderlin is here and Davies has emerged.

Not sure Seamus would be bothered with the politics of the armband. He's a born leader and doesn't need a armband to up his game.

He definitely knows how lucky he is to have this privileged life and that's why he gives total commitment.

After the Leicester game he was on my Belfast flight with his baby girl. Nice to see the man behind the player and as always, great with fans even though his working day was over.

I'm sure he'd be amazing as captain. Which is kind of part of my point, I think?

Like if we give it to Coleman now, what happens if we have Ross ready for it in 2-3 years? You don't strip Seamus, right? Do you have Ross wait until he's in his late 20's? Maybe so. Probably so?

In my opinion it's the only real point to debate on why Coleman shouldn't be captain. He has passion, he leads by example, he will get up in people's face and he loves the club.

I think the GAA thing would be to elevate the young cub as he's representing the local area. It's all about bringing the next ones through. Seamy with his background would be all over that.

He has already said that once he's done in football he's moving home to play GAA with his mates. It would, for me, make perfect sense for him to pass the torch onto a local done good- Ross.
